Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has had a hysteroscopy without pain relief and if do how did it go?
Is there anyway I can prepare myself?

TIA

Why are you having no pain relief? Mine was under GA

It's as an out patient day case. Theres no offer of GA. I can take paracetamol and ibuprofen 1 hour before that's it.

In wondering how painful it will be. It does say it will be painful and uncomfortable.Confused

Thank you @dementedpixie I will take a look. It says I may get a local if they have to remove anything but then they will try it without first. Did you have the local before anything was done or did you have it part way through?

I was booked in for GA from the start - it was to remove a coil that couldn't be removed as the strings were AWOL

I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy with no pain relief at all. It was slightly uncomfortable and felt a little bit crampy for around 12 hours after but nothing awful.

I had this procedure done and had no pain relief whatsoever. It was just a day thing where I could go home after, seems to be the done thing here x

Thank you Jenb2104 and chickpearrocker

Your responses sound promising.
I can deal with uncomfortable and cramps. I feel more relaxed now. Thank you all for responding.

Yes I did and it was fine.

As always loads of people will come along and say the opposite but I can only give you my experience.

It took a while as my cervix was tight but I didn't feel any pain.

I went home on public transport a few hours later.

This thread has been reassuring. My GP has referred me for an outpatient hysteroscopy and I was panicking as I'm such a wuss.

I wasn't offered pain relief. Took ibuprofen I think. I didn't find it painful

I'm waiting on a date for an outpatient hysteroscopy too. I'm a bit scared. They're going to use it to look around and also to remove fibroids. It doesn't sound pleasant but I'm so fed up of feeling this way that I've just got to do it I think.

Yes two with a paracetamol an hour before. Absolutely fine. Not the most pleasant but not awful. Lovely staff, cup of tea and cake afterwards and went back to work.

I've had 2 biopsies without pain relief - one before having a coil fitted, then another before an endometrial ablation. The first I wasn't expecting so felt a bit weird after, but pain was certainly less than a period. The second was fine, and I took pain relief an hour before.

I also had the ablation done under local. That hurt - a lot - but settled down after pretty quickly.

Had a hysteroscopy and biopsy and mirena fitted late last year. Would have preferred to be awake but they only offered me GA due to tight cervix. They found fibroids whilst I was put under but they refuse to remove them as they say they are too small.
