Did anyone ever conceive early in their cycle?

I've been keeping an eye on my monthly cycles for some time. I can usually feel myself ovulating with pulsating sensations and tummy cramping and 14 days later, my period arrives. My cycles were 28/29 days. There was one cycle last year where it turned into 32 days. When I looked back on the cycle, I was very stressed around the time I would ovulated and I put down to that.

Earlier this year, my monthly cycles started misbehaving. It can be anything from 28 to 33 days. I was under tremendous stress earlier in the year and I put it down to stress. Believe me when I say tremendous stress. On average my cycles are now 29 days. The summer just gone, it appeared as if my cycles settled into 28-30 days.

I started the first day of my last period on September the 10. I had a regular flow and it ended on cycle day 5. I had sex on cycle day 6. I would have considered it to be a safe day going by the length of my cycles. The day after on cycle day 7, I experienced a familiar feeling of the pulsating sensations and the tummy cramping. I thought nothing of it thinking it's too early. About a few later of mid cycle, I felt the same again.

I was expecting my period on Monday last, Tuesday/Wednesday at the latest. However it never arrived. I'm now gone into cycle day 35 with still no period.

I took a pregnancy test yesterday but it showed up as negative. I wasn't overly stressed throughout this cycle. I don't know what's going on. I'm anxious now thinking, what if the sex I had on cycle day 6 resulted in a pregnancy that wasn't picked up in a test. I'm never this late.

I think I conceived having DTD on day 9 of a long-ish 30-32 day cycle. Best do the test!

Thanks for the reply. You must have ovulated earlier than expected.

I went to bed last night, egging my period to come on. I went to bed with the boyfriend, wearing a nightie and no underwear. I was very much inviting my period to come on and that scenario would be typically likely. Woke this morning and still no period. I'm now gone into cycle day 36 and 8 days late. I ordered some tests online and they should be with me tomorrow, so I will test again after that.

Either that or DH had super long-lived swimmers!

I've read that sperm can live for up to 4 days.

I guess if you have had pretty erratic cycles for a while, this may just be another of them. In my late teens and early 20s I had cycles anywhere from 30 to 35 days and one that was closer to 36 days but then they settled into more like a 30-31 day cycle and gradually got closer as I got older- down to 28 then 26 in peri meno.

Queenofthenights,

Thanks for the reply. You're probably right. I was under a lot of stress over the past few months although September wasn't overly stressful.

I ordered some tests this morning online with a delivery hopefully tomorrow. I hope to test tomorrow.

It felt last week as if my period was going to come, I had some tummy cramps and I was tired too but it never came. I'm experiencing no tummy cramps and there's no spotting or staining on tissue that's happens with me before a period.

I wonder would it be too early for me to make a doctor's appointment for Wednesday or Thursday, depending on what happens if my period doesn't show up tomorrow. I wasn't ever 8/9 days late before.

TBH it's wasting your own and your dr's time to have an appt about 1 late period.

The 'rule' is keep a record for 6 months then see a dr if things are way out of normal for you.

There is nothing your dr can do and a period a week and bit late is not a medical matter.

Thanks for your reply. I will test tomorrow anyways to see what it shows. It's unlikely I'm pregnant given my dates but I suppose there's any a chance I suppose once I do the deed.

I read online on some forums, that some women test negative on home tests, just to show a positive on a blood test. That's the reason I was considering the doctor but I suppose it's still too early. I'll see what this week brings and take it from there.

If the OP sees her doctor after missing her period for 6 months, I don't think the doctor will need to do any tests. Wink By then her belly size and kicks could be a major clue. Grin

More to the point, are you playing Russian roulette with contraception? Would a baby be a disaster? Do you want a baby?
If not, why are you taking chances (if you are.)

That's so funny Lweji.

Queenofthenights,

Going by previous cycles they were 28 to 32 days. Usually slap, bang in the middle around day 14/15 I feel crappy and sore. I usually took that as ovulation but I never temped or checked other signs to confirm.

I thought cycle day 6 would have been a good/safe day for me. I never anticipated ovulating early, that's if it this cycle. From cycle day 8 to 21/22, I usually refrain from vaginal sex or use condoms.

I love babies and children and get on well with them. A child wouldn't be a disaster but it wouldn't be ideal at this time for me either.

Queen is right, though, that the time between the period and ovulation is not safe, in that ovulation can occur early. The only safe time is after ovulation (about 3 days) and before the period. And that is if you really are sure ovulation occurs. Be it by temperature or hormone check.

Test with another pregnancy test, ideally with morning urine or after several hours of the last wee.

My last words were 'Don't worry I won't get pregnant today'....

I now have a beautiful daughter who is in her late 20s.

It wasn't an 'accident' as such for me, as we were thinking of another child, but going by the dates in my cycle, it was a surprise.

Thanks for the replies. If my period shows up this week and hopefully it will, I'm definitely going to go down the route of temping and ovulation sticks and condoms in the first half of my cycle until after ovulation.

If you really want to avoid being pregnant you need to think about some form of contraception that works for every day of the month. Do you have any reason to avoid other methods like the Pill, coil, etc?

It's not a good idea to go by temp and thinking post- ovulation is okay.
You could have a higher temp due to being unwell, even a slight cold.

Sperm can live for up to 7 days (which must have happened to me) and an egg lives for 24 hours.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't take the pill because sometimes and more often than not life can be not only hectic but pure upheaval. I know myself I will be unintentionally missing days of taking the pill. I'm great person for buying vitamins and minerals and more often than not I take them and then they end up as decorating the bedside locker.

Due to my age (36) I don't want to go down the route of a long term inplant option in case I go down the route of wanting a baby later on within the next few years.

I will be testing shortly after the postman arrives. I took a urine sample this morning. I think it's going to be negative.
I'm just after figuring something out and a possible reason for a delay in period. I suffer from terrible leg cramps, mainly at night time. I find they come and go in spells. For that I was taking a magnesium supplement for quite some time. I stopped taking the magnesium back in early September. Not intentionally. I went away for a weekend in September and forgot to pack the Magnesium. Then when I came back I took it for a few nights before bed, as usual then I ran out from the magnesium and meant to buy more but never got around to doing it yet. I'm just after googling magnesium and periods and I read a few things online saying magnesium can help regulate hormonal imbalances. I don't have any known hormonal imbalance. I think, maybe for this cycle the late period might be connected with stopping the magnesium. I could be wrong but there might be something in it too.

I'm in cycle day 37 now and 9 days late. I tested about 20 minutes ago. The test I used are the strip tests that comes in a pack of 10. They are very sensitive and are 10miu. The result came up within a minute. It was the control line that came up and no test sign so that's a negative for me. As I wrote earlier, I think the late period might be connected to stopping the magnesium supplement. I got a new bottle of magnesium and I just started taking taking it again because I woke with a bad cramp this morning. Hopefully my period will come now soon. I'm not overly anxious now. I will test again at the weekend if it does come just in case.

Fingers crossed.

Stress can throw periods all over the place, even if they seem settled.

But, at some point, if they are that irregular, it may be worth checking with the doctor, yes.

Thanks Ljeji,

Well, my periods were like clockwork last year. Earlier in the year when my cycles began stretching out, I was putting it down to stress. For instance, back in February my period was late and when I looked back onto my calendar to time I was predicting ovulation, I was under considerable stress. I was at the end of a dirty campaign of harassment from someone with a grudge and just couldn't believe the dirty move she made to try and hurt and damage me. I was putting it down to that. I had other stresses throughout the year as well. This is the first cycle I've gone into 37 days and being considerably late.

I was at the doctor two summers ago over a different matter and bloods were taken and thyroid was tested, and tested for diabetes and other things. Everything came back clear and good except for iron. I had bloods taken this summer too and it all came back good. I think, if I go into next week without a period, I will make an appointment.

I just started a pre natal vitamin that I ordered with the pregnancy tests earlier. Just in case things swing into a positive here. I will be starting back on the magnesium tonight. Just bought a new batch on my way to work.

My period came, thank goodness. Very unusual for me to be 10 days late but it came.

The first few days of being late, I was cool with it. Then it came to 8/9/10 days and I became nervous but it came nonetheless.
