AIBU to ask for gas and air...

... for a vaginal examination? I just had one with my GP and totally freaked it (tears, shaking etc) it didn't even hurt, it was so embarrassing. I like to think I'm a rational person but I totally lost it. I've had many smear tests in the past and I'm not great with them but they're so quick I can grin and bear it. My GP is referring me for further examination and I'm dreading it. Would it be unreasonable to ask if they can give me gas and air while they examine me next time?

Unfortunately gas & air won’t really help unless the problem is pain (which it sounds like it’s not from your post). It also isn’t routinely stocked in GP surgeries or outpatient clinics.

Not gas and air, but it could be worth discussing the anxiety with them and maybe trying out something like beta blockers before the appointment?
