What have been your experiences of the Implant?

I am being basically forced to go on it after being on the Depo injection for so long. Apparently it is bad for you to be on it as long as I have and the implant seemed the best next choice for me, can't do coil or pill.

I love the depo and don't bleed, gain weight, have PMT etc - has anyone else gone from the injection to the implant with no changes to side effects/no side effects?

Thanks

I was on it for six years (replaced at 3), no weight gain or bleeding and thought it was great.

Except I am feeding DS who’s 7 weeks old right now and I’ve only had the implant removed for four months (you can do the math) so I’m wary because I thought it was next to impossible to fall pregnant on it. And yet here he is.

I got the implant after I had DS in 2015, absolutely hated it! Didn't bleed for the first five months then bled constantly, headaches but worst of all it made my mood incredibly low and I became quite anxious about a lot of daily life things. Got it removed and felt sooo much better, so I didn't like it but of course it's different for every woman!

I was on the depo for about 10 years and then moved to the implant about 4 years ago. I didn't have any side effects and I continued to not bleed.

I had it out in June and I was pregnant the same month and now have a 4 month old daughter. I've just had a second implant put in.

I had a pretty extreme reaction to the implant.
I bled constantly, became parionid and depressed, had major pms constantly and gained 2 stone in 2 months. My arm was sore and hot but it was because my body was rejecting the implant.
I had to have an emergency removal because my arm was going septic and now I have scars on my arm and major hormone issues.
But I will add that this was the most extreme case my clinic had ever seen and they do hundreds a month so it's pretty unlikely you'll react like that

I've had two. First 3 years perfect, no problems whatsoever. Second one was AWFUL. No weight gain but spots, it changed me as a person. Made me constantly angry, upset and made my anxiety go through the roof. I begged for months to have it removed and finally got it out and will never ever go back on it.

My friend has had a few times and has had no problems.

Luck I guess

I had no side effects at all from the implant.

I have mixed experiences of the implant.
I wouldn't have a period for 4-6 months then would bleed continuously for 12-13 weeks. I ended up at one point being on the pill too to stop bleeding.
I stuck it out for the 3 years as I kept being reassured it would improve. I didn't have it replaced.

I had a horrible experience, bled for three months and had extreme anxiety and had it taken out.
It has a terrible effect on my mental health.

I'm on my second, my periods have pretty much stopped (I maybe have one per year which is much lighter than pre-implant), no weight gain, no mood swings etc. When this one runs out in December I'm having another one put in. I love my implant!

I've had implants constantly since January 2006, with just under a year off to have a baby. My periods are occasional, very light and virtually painless, whereas before I would be in the sort of pain that made it difficult to concentrate at work for the first couple of days, and would occasionally black out. It has no effect on my weight. I suspect it might suppress my interest in sex, but I've been on it so long I'm not sure, and anyway I'm now a working parent aged nearly 40 so might have lost interest at this stage of life anyway, as I'm constantly tired. It does the job of preventing pregnancy very well, and when I wanted a baby I was pregnant within a couple of weeks of having it out. I don't think it affects my mood.

I bled constantly too for the 9 months it was in and continued to bleed for a further two after removal. Refused to remove it despite letters from the gp (gp wasn’t trained to remove them). When they finally did I was told to stop being such a drama queen and I now have permenant nerve damage in my arm. Fun times! Are all pills out of the question for you?

I'm on my second implant after being on the combined pill for years before. Have had no side effects, seems to suit me well.
