Periods after having a baby - does this sound normal?

DD was born 16 months ago. I had no sign of periods returning until a couple of months ago, when I started to feel mild period-like cramps, but no bleeding.

A couple of weeks ago I had a very slight bleed - really just blood when I wiped, for a few hours.

This week I've had something similar for a couple of days - very light bleeding (enough to need a sanitary pad, but only just) for a few hours, then nothing. Slight cramps but not too bad.

I'm just not sure whether this is normal? After DS was born, my period just started one day (after about 18 months or so). Should I be worried, or just keep an eye on it for a few more months?

Maybe pop along to see your GP?
My period came back about 6 weeks after my son was born. I think I’d be a little worried if I was still waiting nearly a year and a half down the line.
Doesn’t hurt to see the Doctor and get some expert advice.

I was breastfeeding DD until fairly recently, so I'm not too worried that it's taken so long to come back. It's more this strange stop-start light bleeding that I'm not sure about.

It's a bit of a hassle to get to the GP with the 2 kids in tow, which is why I don't really want to go unless it really seems like something needs checking.

Ah, When did you stop BF?
I guess if you were exclusively BF then your period wouldn’t have come back and now that you’ve stopped your body is adjusting accordingly? In which case I wouldn’t worry too much, give it a good 6 months from now and then see how it’s going?

Mine came back at 22 months post partum (also due to breastfeeding).
And this was similar for me with a very light period then my luck changed... the following month was much heavier & felt like a 'normal' period again.

Mine came back 4 months after I finished bf DS1 (at 23m old). With DS2 it was nine months after I stopped bf (at 3.5yo, but he'd only had a bedtime feed for at least a year of that). Made an appointment with my GP who agreed to do blood tests etc and my period arrived a few days later. Regular as clockwork ever since again. I was sort of relieved and a bit disappointed at the same time. Seems as unfair to me as it did when I was ten years old that we have to put up with this every single month...

Oh I should have said both times the first period was lighter than normal and shorter.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see how the next couple of months go, but it sounds like I don't need to be too worried.
