The cakes being pastires - croissant, pain au chocolat, pain aus raisens etc.
You don't realise until you get home, and the receipt shows you paid for 15, and you only wanted 15, but you had simply been given an extra four by mistake.
Bakery is ten minutes walk down as steep hill, and 15 minutes back up againwink.
Guests are due to arrive, and the table, cutlery, coffee etc still need to be put ready.

WWYD?

I wouldn't have counted grin

Just chill, I'm sure they knew they were given you a few extra - that's what I would assume. Nice baker

I woulld genuinely assume they shoved hem in because they were surplus. cakes go stale so fast.

WindupMerchant Sun 06-Sep-09 17:30:17

Eat them. The baker can't prove a thing.

Lomond Sun 06-Sep-09 17:30:22

Eat them and tell no one of course! wink

belgo Sun 06-Sep-09 17:30:51

No not a few extra - someone else's bag by mistake.

This happened this morning btw. Dh and I had differing opinions on what to do.

You can't take them back because of the risk of cross-contamination. The proper course of action is to eat the evidence.

AvadaKedavra Sun 06-Sep-09 17:31:41

It's Sunday - early closing, they most likely bunged a few more in as they'd only be thrown out at the end of the day anyway.

belgo Sun 06-Sep-09 17:31:50

Seems pretty conclusive so fargrin

TheCrackFox Sun 06-Sep-09 17:32:16

Eat them. They can't sell them now as they may have been contaminated (no offence) and I don't see why you should have to pay for an honest mistake.

belgo Sun 06-Sep-09 17:34:30

Interesting.

I took them back, and they were put back in the display - I hadn't touched them, and had only had them at home for 10 minutes or so.

Maybe I should just have eaten them - dh and his family think I'm far too honest!

If a bakers dozen is 13 and a bakers 15 is 19 then next time I went I'd ask for 16 and expect to be given 21.

Can you tell I've got a DC in training for 11+ exams practising those number sequence questions? grin

Anyway I wouldn't do anything about it now but mention it next time I went in.

belgo Sun 06-Sep-09 17:37:21

grin of course the other reason why I took them back was to stop ME eating them!

ShowOfHands Sun 06-Sep-09 17:42:24

Bravo belgo. That's what I would have done.

colditz Sun 06-Sep-09 17:52:30

grimma, I'd expect to be gicven 23 wink

GrimmaTheNome Sun 06-Sep-09 17:56:21

With only 2 pairs of numbers there may well be multiple solutions - dang, 21 still seems the most obvious to me.

However as the excess buns were taken back we have to sadly conclude that this is not official bakery maths.

You took them back?!

Are you insane?
