To holiday or not to holiday

That is the question.

I have 4 children - 5,7,10,11 and am contemplating a short break with DH to somewhere sunny for a couple of days over the summer holidays.

I have been working very hard recently and need a break having done several weeks of tiring work as well as juggling the care of 4 children and the house plus a busy DH.

I would like to go away for a couple of days just to recouperate and have 5 minutes where I am not busy running around after everyone. There will be at least 1 weeks family holiday with all 4 children and DH, plus numerous days/trips out, fun things to do.

The children will be cared for by their nanny (childminder) so will have the consistency of being in their own home, with the same carer and same rules/routines etc. However they will also be spoilt rotten.

Would you go?

If you can afford it then why not? Dh and I have had a couple of nights away recently with my parents babysitting.

I'm glad you all agree - some people have said that it's selfish to leave them for a few days - and that they wouldn't do it - so wanted to check if I was being a mean mummy!

PestoMonster Wed 01-Jul-09 09:57:29

No, it's not selfish at all. They will have a great time and you will have a much-needed break and return refreshed. Do it!!

can i bring my kids to be looked after by your nanny?
and we can all go together.

OMG I'd SO do this!!

Go for it grin

Am shock that people would call you selfish. Yes you are a parent, but you are also still 'YOU' and I think we all need to remember to have a bit of time to just be us, otherwise you'd go crazy.

Me and dh left the kids last year for 4 days to go to a wedding in Lake Garda, it was wonderful to stay in bed, drink at lunchtime, have as much sex as we wanted, when we wanted, lie in the sun all day etc etc.

Go for it smile you will have a great time

Why aren't the school gates full of m'netters rather than the weirdos we tend to get - looks like I need to book a holiday!! Thanks

I wouldn't go, but I don't think there's anything wrong with someone who makes a different choice. Kids will be well cared for and happy, no problem. The reason I wouldn't do it is I'd feel too guilty. <points to forehead and tattoo "Martyr">

<<Looks at Hecate - likes the tattoo grin <<ponders what tattoo for own forehead>>

Hell yes I'd go!

I even went to butlins for a break with DH years ago, with 20 people several of whom I actively disliked (and was proved hugely right in doing so) LOL

Dh and I regualrly peruse travel agents boards for ideas then shrug and remember that we can't get someone to look after them
