yes I've read and loved most of his books. Haven't read Juliet Naked yet - I think I need to. I don't come across enough proper laugh out loud funny books.

I liked High Fidelity and About A Boy.

Thought How To Be Good really creaked under the weight of its own contrived concept, and DJ Goodnews was just smackable.

A Long Way Down was a return to form. I often use the opening for creative writing groups.

Enjoyed most of The Polysyllabic Spree.

Got Juliet, Naked but not read it yet!

High Fidelity and About A Boy brilliant. How To be Good = shite. Long Way Down = not good. One for teenagers, Slam or something like that = tripe. Won't bother with any more.

I have just read it but I wasn't all that overwhelmed,I like him usually but I thought it was a bit dull.

yes I think Juliet Naked is fairly new. The worst thing about it (so far - I still haven't finished it) is the title.

I loved Slam and gave it to both my teenage daughters to read. One of them returned the compliment by giving me Juliet Naked for my birthday and I'll certainly let her read it when I've finished.

Juliet Naked shows perceptively how the Internet has changed the way we relate to each other in many ways and there are also some spoof Wikipedia entries drawing attention to the drawbacks of relying on the Internet for information.

I was thinking, how does Nick Hornby always come up with such witty, entertaining and wise novels - but on reading some comments on here it seems that's because I haven't read his lesser efforts.

Read and loved most of his books. I read 'About A Boy' under my desk when I was temping doing a very dull job because I couldn't put it down. The soundtrack to the film is brilliant.

I loved his early stuff, but Juliet was a pleasant read. I neither laughed out loud nor cried nor cared all that much really.

Has he gone a bit stale!?!? Will I be lynched for saying that.

Slam wasn't great either..

I give up on him now. Two in a row that were just alright...

I must say I didn't like the ending of Juliet Naked. But as some one who's not that bothered about pop music, I'm surprised at how much the author managed to engage my interest, and thought it had some very witty lines in it.
