What we're reading

books vs audiobooks

I am currently listening to 'Juliette, Naked' by Nick Hornby. I am trying to get into audiobooks more as it helps me get my lazy, fat arse off the sofa and go walk the dog. I have previously listened to all the 'shopoholics' books like this, which I really enjoyed (did lots on a long haul flight) but I have since struggled to find others that I wanted to 'listen' to.

I tried and failed with some Inspector Rebus books and a Linda la Plant book but just couldn't get into them.

I do prefer a book in my hand but I am getting there with all this new fangled technology

What are others views on audiobooks?

To me, audiobooks are very different to print books. It's really dependant on the reader and the editing of the book - some books I love to read sound awful in some audio books.

I love Tony Robinson reading Terry Pratchett books - he makes books I enjoy even better

My DS is a greatfan of audiobooks, he suffers from insomnia and they help. He tends to enjoy things by particular readers. Someone's already mentioned tony R. doing Terry Pratchett. He'll listen to anything with Stephen Fry or Martin Jarvis reading. Also the Bill Bryson ones that he reads himself.

I was ill for a long time last year and my sister sent me a collection of classic novels on audiobook. It had Brontes, Jane Austin, Hardy, Dickens etc. I really enjoyed it and my daughter's now pinched it. It had well known readers on it.

I'd go to the library, and choose a few to try, maybe something you wouldn't necessarily normally choose. Hope you find something you like
