Does anyone remember these books from childhood?

They were like the Famous Five style. The main character was fat (!), his mum played bridge and he always seemed to see somthing that needed investigating whilst selling the parish magazine. Then a gang of them would sort things out. I think he had a shed and was an expert at disguise.

I can't remember much more, but for some reason I keep thinking about them.

I LOVED them!
Easily the best Enid Blyton series - but my Mum used to try and ration Enid Blyton because she was considered a low-quality writer!

Do you remeber the one set in the fairground, and I thik Fatty disgiosed himself as a statue of a clown or something - dead scary.

And they were full of useful tips, such as how to get into a locked door if the key was still in the lock on the other side, which it never was in RL, of course!

I'm sure they were called something else because I remember fatty and Mr Goon, but not the name. There was one where somebody was doing anonymous letters with words cut from newspapers and tehy worked out who it was because the word "goon" had been cut out whole, so could, of course, only have come from the "Rangoon Times", ergo , it was the burmese guy.

The Mystery of the Spiteful Letters, it was the first book I read by myself, and had a maid in it called Gladys, a name I had never come across before, and could not pronounce. They were called the Five Find Outers, with Fredrick Algernon Trottville (Fatty) amd his dog Buster.

My Mom gave away all my Enid Blyton books when I was away at school, even though I used to love to re-read them. I have been steadily building up a collection of my favourites for some time though. Because I STILL love to re-read them. Especially, Six Cousins, where town and country cousins have to live together, and then Six Cousins Again, where the town cousins move to the country completely, but revert to their old Towny ways.

And what about the Mallory Towers and St. Claires, books? All those midnight feasts, and jokes at the expense of the french teacher, God, was boarding school a shock after that.

I am obviously a very sad case. But if I was ever on Mastermind, the books of Enid Blyton could be my specialist subject........
