I did! I couldn't see what the fuss was about and couldn't warm to the characters.

Me too! I read a lot - all genres, and this has to be one of the most disappointing reads ever. The characters and style of writing failed to evoke any emotion in me at all. >

yes. Grossly over-rated.

It is one of my most hated book of all times. I loathed it. A colleague lent it to me so I had to finish the bloody thing as I knew she'd want to talk about how it ended.

Yes me, thought it was shite and sooo over rated.
My fave 'everyone's reading it' books of recent years are lovely bones, curious indident and kite runner. Loved them all but this left me cold.

Thought I was the only one, in fact for me it is rare not like the characters as even if I don't like the book I usually like the characters.

Gosh.

I don't feel I have to like the characters in a book in order to find the book a good read.

I can think of a lot worse books out there, and a lot more sentimental shite, and in comparisson The Time Traveller's Wife isn't so bad really is it?

Hooray! Me too! Hated it. I thought I was the only one.

Hello. My name is growly and I didn't like The Time Traveller's Wife.

Oh God, the characters were dire. I actually hated the guy and wished he would get lost in a time warp or something. The woman was pukesome.

I hated it.

Sneaks in.......

I quite liked it
I would give it 3 out of 5

Runs away quickly.........

I don't think it is necessarily liking the characters, but the writing should make you feel something for them. Otherwise there is no point is there? Maybe it might just be me and I am, in fact, a pretencious cowface

I thought it was terrible but have always felt in the minority when saying this.

Flibbertyjibbet · 24/08/2009 20:38

I probably would have hated it...

if I'd summed up the strength to get further than page 5 or 6 of that overrated drivel.

Bit of emporers new clothes I think - someone says its fab so others that can't think for themselves read it and think they have to rave about it...

Itv was American cheese. It was like an episode of Oprah with a bit of magical realism thrown in. IOn short, it was shoite.

babyOcho · 24/08/2009 20:44

God, I thought i was the only person that didn't like it.

I didn't get why anyone would cry over it.

Wouldn't touch with a bargepole. Even the ad for the film makes me want to throw up.

(does anyone else think it's got a bit of a sinister sexist overtone- ie if your bloke fucks off and leaves you at unpredictable times you should just keep on keepin on looking winsome and patient and keep the bed warm till he decides to pole up again?)

(or is that just me in my near-permanent-these-days Millie Tant mode??)

Yes, it's in my top 1 of books I've hated!

I think it was a book written for people who don't usually read books. When I see people reading it on public transport, I feel like grabbing it and throwing it out the window!

I'd rather get my fingernails pulled out with pliers than see the film.

I feel better after that rant.

Hooray - thought it was only me too. We read it for my book group a while ago and shamefully I couldn't even finish it for that - just nonsensical tosh.

All the rest of them RAVED over it.

I am currently reading it. I suspect I will not finish it. I wouldn't say it was crap, the concept is interesting....it's just that I haven't found it especially engaging. I tend not to like to have to work at reading novels, prefering those which I can't put down even when my eyelids are drooping. I am definitely working at this one

The book I was reading prior to this was Nick Hornby's 'How to be Good' which was acutely observed, witty and had me hooked.
