What book are you reading just now, why are you reading it and are you enjoying it?

I am reading the life of pi by Yann Martel.

I am reading it because i bought it from the charity shop a while back, it sat around for a bit and i had just finished a huge tome about India. I also am trying to "read better".

I am enjoying it, its very entertaining, although it hasn't really challenged my beliefs in any way.

Am loving Pi's exclamation of "Jesus, Mary, Mohhamed and Vishnu" - I think it pays to cover all bases

I'm currently rather stressed out so have regressed to childhood and am currently reading my way through Pollyanna, the Anne of Green Gables books, etc.

I'm also trying to "read better" but sometimes I just need a break and to read soothing old-fashioned comfort books for a while

I am reading 'William' by E H Young, because I love her novels and I picked this one up second hand at the weekend. I have only read a couple of pages so far though.

I have just finished reading Barbara Windsor's autobiography and I must say it is the best thing I have read in a long time. But my she was a rum lass in her younger days

I enjoyed life of Pi (ponders re-reading it)

I'm currently working on the Short Stories of Chekov. I can't remember what prompted me, but it was a reference to the Lady with Small Dog story.

It's a good read. I read his short novels previously and enjoyed that also.

I enjoyed Life of Pi too. I am reading The Cornish Trilogy and am in the second book and finding it a bit of a slog. Never had problems with Robertson Davies before so am hiding from the whole shebang by taking a bit of time out with Artemis Fowl

I'm reading The Great Lover about the poet Rupert Brooke. Tbh I'm struggling with it a bit and put it aside on holiday to read a Patrick Gale instead. I just don't care enough about the characters at the moment but still plodding on.

I am reading Phra Farang: An English Monk In Thailand by Phra Peter Pannapadipo.

I swapped it on Read it Swap it.
I am fascinated by the whole idea. And I enjoy books about the East.

I have onkly read about 30 pages and is good so far.

I got it for xmas, I asked for it as I have read and enjoyed other JG books.

Just finished Seven Year Itch, can't think of author. Was great. Really enjoyed it.

Joseph O'Neill's Netherland.

Because Obama bigged it up recently (a US president who reads fiction! How cool!).

I'm admiring it, but I wouldn't say I am exactly enjoying it.

I am reading "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay.OK it isn't highbrow literature,but it is lighthearted and entertaining,despite the main protagonist being a serial killer .

I need something lighthearted at the moment

Re-reading Mapp and Lucia by E.F. Benson. It's a comfort book, hugely escapist and funny.

'The Confusion' by Neal Stephenson

I bought his book 'Quicksilver' in a charity shop ages ago and when i eventually got around to reading it it was the funniest and most intelligent book i'd ever read... broadens your knowledge whilst entertaining you, what more could you ask for?

I love books that make me laugh out loud, that make me chuckle when i think of them at odd points in the day, that can use five words and turn them into 10 minutes of tears out of my eyes laughter.

Neal Stephenson has all that, especially in the parts of the book that concentrate on Jack Shaftoe yet it's elegantly written by someone who clearly understands science, history, cryptography, mathematics, history and language better than i can ever hope to

I am reading Shakespear's Wife by Germaine Greer. It's okay. I am reading it because the library didn't stock The Female Eunich. I'm not really gripped though, so today I also started Jane Eyre which I am enjoying more. I'm on a bit of a feminist reading bent at the moment, partly inspired by that recent thread.

Mistress by Anita Nair.

Really enjoying it although i don't like the female protaganist one bit. But it's a fascinating social history and explanation of kathakali - traditional Indian dance.

I'm reading it as it was a present given to me by my lover (and DH)

Interesting Huffwardly, I would like to read some feminist literature, anything you would recommend.

I am reading Barak Obama's The Audacity of Hope. It's okaaay, I'm not gripped by it. It is obviously very US centric and makes reference to a lot of people I don't know. It's a bit rambling TBH, I can discern the over arching theme.

I'm try to read 'better' too. I am a lazy reader but should be better.

I am reading the other queen by phillipa gregory.

I ws looking forward to it but I have struggled with it for some reason. Have loved all her others but this seems to ahve taken me ages and not really gripped me. That said, I do have a baby that doesn't sleep so am constantly tired so makes reading difficult.

Only have aobut 80 pages to go so am supposed to be reading this evening to try and finish it once and for all but now stuck on here !

I gave up on 'Life Of Pi' but can't remember why: it irritated me. I also gave up on 'Shakespeare's Wife' because I felt that she was just determine dto get in every piece of research she had done to the point that it was boring.

I have just read he Good Thief which I enjoyed. I am now reading Slam by Nick Hornby which has some nice touches but is mostly pretty rubbish.

I am reading The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, it is the book for book club next week and I always leave things to the last minute so attempting to spend this evening in by myself reading it and relaxing.

Bloody MN is distracting me though
