DH saw a trailer for it a few nights ago...I really enjoyed the book. Little bit worried that DH thought it was Cameron Diaz in trailer though...can anyone confirm? Hope the book isn't ruined by Hollywood like so many others have been before.

Wow, this is one of my mums favourite books, she'll be chuffed to learn about this!

so shock had to say it twice

mamadiva Wed 13-May-09 10:27:48

The book was okay but man that's goimng to be a depressing movie shock

chegirl Wed 13-May-09 15:11:51

The girl's parts are the most important really (well IMO). Who will be playing them?

I thought the book was incredibly well researched. The way she described the impact of the disease on the family was very good. I thought the ending was rubbish though.

I really, really hope the film gets across the impact of childhood cancer over as well. There is no way on this earth that I will go and watch it so I will rely on you lot to let me know.

I heart Jodi Picoult and im desperate to read the new book but too stingy to pay £7.50 wink
19 minutes is the best one so far imo

BlingDreaming Wed 13-May-09 15:14:59

Most irritating book ever written. I was horrified that the FT actually profiled her last week.

GetOrfMoiLand Wed 13-May-09 15:17:21

I think it's a dozy book. I had to read it for a book club, thought it was reallt trite and the ending was awful.

Can imagine Cameron Diaz being overly emotive in the film - can't imagine it's a film I would want to see.

nickschick Wed 13-May-09 15:18:07

oohhh nooooooooo dont say I have shite book taste sad

elle23 Wed 13-May-09 15:26:00

nickschick do you mean Handle With Care? I have it but haven't got around to reading it yet - reading two other books at the moment...
On Amazon they have Handle With Care (American Version) and it's cheaper than the re-release that has just come out in England...if you can put up with the American spelling

elle23 Wed 13-May-09 15:28:46

On another thread someone posted that they've read/heard that the ending of My Sister's Keeper has been changed for the film...no doubt it's all going to end happily ever after, typical of Hollywood.

nickschick Wed 13-May-09 15:29:19

elle 23,I will check amazon out -thanks for that-i did look on ebay but they are v dear on there too-ive been lucky the past couple of times Ive gotten them half price in whsmiths......smile

mamadiva Thu 14-May-09 07:14:48

Surely they have'nt changed the ending?! shock

That would defeat the purpose of the bloody remake surely hmm

Nickschick I normally buy books from the Asda if I can't get them from the library, most of their books are around a fiver I think.

nickschick Thu 14-May-09 07:16:27

mamadiva im trawling round supermarkets looking lol! at the min they only have it in hardback tho, thanks smile

PfftTheMagicDragon Thu 14-May-09 07:50:36

They have changed the end of the film....

nickschick Fri 15-May-09 17:50:35

YAYYYYY I have my book grin dh and ds bought it for me gringrin.

ds3 insisted on using his tooth fairy money towards it.

SamsMama Fri 15-May-09 17:55:26

I'm actually kind of excited that they're changing the ending...I liked the book but thought the ending was sort of "major twist just to have a twist" kind of thing. I used to really like Jodi Piccoult (and still sort of do) but her books are really starting to get me down! I didn't even read 19 Minutes and I heard about the ending for Handle With Care and am passing on that as well.

paisleyleaf Thu 21-May-09 12:33:44

The film of 'Plain Truth' was on telly a couple of months ago
and wasn't so good tbh

LolaLadybird Wed 10-Jun-09 23:33:50

I read this when pg and liked one of the character names so much I ended up choosing it for DC1 so I guess I will always have a slightly special regard for the book.

I really enjoyed it but haven't enjoyed another Jodi Picoult book as much since - haven't read 19 minutes or Handle With Care though.

In fact, this thread has made me realise I can't remember the ending of Sisters Keeper so I'm quite tempted to re-read it.

FfreckleFface Wed 10-Jun-09 23:40:32

They've changed the ending?

The only good thing about the book was the ending.

Find her books horribly addictive though, even though they are pretty terrible. At least they don't take that long to read, so I'm not wasting too much time on them.

NeedaNewName Wed 10-Jun-09 23:44:13

How on earth could you change the ending - that is the whole thing about the bloody book.

My god I sobbed my eyes out when i read the end - DH actually thought there was somethng wrong with me, in my defense I pg at the time!!!
