Chimney Corner Stories by Enid Blyton. My mum used to read it to me at bedtime and I sooo desperately wanted to learn to read so that I could read it for myself. I liked the Wishing Chair stories at around that time too.

Probably a Jackie or Jill book - the pony ones. Also loved the Follyfoot Farm books. Remember reading Flossie and the Magic Fur Coat (think that was the title) in bed when i should have been asleep

Tales of green hedges was one of them - Enid Blyton. But because I had a very freaky granny another very early one was the adventures of Strewel Peter - completely horrific awful gross book about what happens to naughty children - like the one who had her thumbs snipped off with huge scissors by a scary man because she sucked her thumb. It was a really nice bedtime book. Not.

i cant remember my very very first book but one of them was 'peace at last'. Then it was roald dahl books, enid blyton books, then Judy Blume books... They were fantastic!

It was probably something Enid Blyton but one of the books that really stands out from my childhood was Little House in the Big Woods, Laura Inglis Wilder. Bought it in the local junk shop, great book!

compo Tue 19-Apr-05 18:19:54

ooh yes Turquoise I loved Gobbolino

Dahlia Tue 19-Apr-05 18:20:04

spykid, it was horrendous. Another story was of a boy who wouldn't eat his soup, so he got really thin, like a piece of paper, then died. Like I said though, my granny was one freaky mother...

compo Tue 19-Apr-05 18:20:33
