Can some of you who are fans of this genre tell me why you enjoy those graphic crime books by Val Mcdermid, Mo Hayder, Karen Slaughter and the like.... A friend lent one of Mcdermid's to me and I hated it. Researching others on Amazon, they very often seem to feature explicit sexual violence towards women and even some toward children. I don't get it. Why do women want to read (or write, for that matter) books that seem to be overtly misogynistic?
