Help! Its my book club tommorrow night and its my turn to choose the book, ideas please

This will be the groups 4th book, and now its my turn to choose, there will be 6 of us. So, can you recommened a good page turner thats not too sad thats got lots to discuss. We have read We Need to Talk about Keven, the Kite Runner and the the Empress Orchid, I wasnt keen on the latter but the first two had loads to talk about. Thanks.

Second - notes on an exhibition and the book thief, we are choosing ours tonight, and have just read Any Human Heary by William Boyd which was briliant, he also wrote Restless also very good and one that we read on here and all enjoyed was Agent Zigzag.

just finished a book called "monster love" it is certainly gripping if painful - it is about co-denpendcy between sociopaths and does involve rahter unpleasant bits of chid abuse - if you can read we need to talk about kevin you could read this about the same levle of unpleasantness if you know what i mean, it is short so quick to read and left me longing to belong ot a book club so i could discuss it with someone - sorry at work and cannot remember the author.

We've read Notes on a Scandal which generated a lot of discussion, also Half of a Yellow Sun which is very good though a bit upsetting.

The Dispossessed - great story (would be classed as sci-fi, but don't be put off by that, no spaceships or aliens!), real page turner, and loads to talk about as it is a 'utopia' novel imagining what a totally different sort of society would be like.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston really blew me away, I always think that's what I'd pick in a book group. She should be much more famous than she is...Black American writer from the South...the book is almost transcendental in places...really beautiful and moving.

If you liked the Kite Runner then I would really recommend A thousand splendid suns by the same author . It is set in Afganhistan again but written from the female perspective of growing up there .

I really enjoyed it

The Book Thief is also one we have done and I loved that as well .

I thought Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell was a fabulous book and would be good to discuss as it's litle off-centre.

Not your usual booky book, but well written and different.

Cloud Atlas gives plenty to discuss-I actually preferred his Black Swan Green.
Notes on an Exhibition is a very good one to do- Patrick Gale.

I really liked "The Book Thief". I've just read "Oryx And Crake" by Margaret Atwood, which I think could generate a lot of discussion, as could "The Handmaid's Tale".

If you've already done "The Kite Runner" then personally I wouldn't choose "A Thousand Splendid Suns" as they may be a bit samey - I was very disappointed with the latter.

"Notes On An exhibition" is interesting.

I'm a massive Jonathan Coe fan.
All his books are page turners but he manages to combine that with depth. Smart arse, lol!

Notes on a Scandal is brilliant, and quite chilling.

Why not a classic - The Great Gatsby or The Catcher in the Rye? Both quite short and very readable.
