I got through it, but it was a spoiler for me.not as good as the hype. Glad I'd finished it in a way.
And can't talk about it much because I forgot most of it. wink

What do you mean by spoilers by the way?

Flamesparrow Thu 03-Jul-08 16:43:55

Spoilers are when people say what happens in the book... like you did wink

Spaceman Thu 03-Jul-08 16:49:53

Oh sh*t. Sorry all.
Ummmmm it's a great book and everyone should read it. There.

oopsadaisyangel Thu 03-Jul-08 16:51:31

I loved it but then again I love trashy novels grin

oggsfrog Thu 03-Jul-08 16:54:19

I absolutely loved the book.
I cried at intervals throughout it and blubbed buckets at the end.
I also cried buckets at Under The Skin by Michel Faber.
God, I love a good read smile

Flamesparrow Thu 03-Jul-08 17:00:56

Lol Spaceman - I did love the way you asked afterwards grin If you press the red ! at the end of your post, you can ask em to delete it. The spoiler warngin thread containing spoilers is a bit weird grin

Spaceman Thu 03-Jul-08 17:11:02

Thanks for the tip. I've just done that. Don't want to ruin it for anyone!!!!

EmmyLou Thu 03-Jul-08 17:21:34

It's odd. When I read it, I found it interesting but contrived with irritating bits that really got on my nerves. I think trying to 'organise' the time travel concept in my mind disracted me from the story.

Two years after reading it, parts have really stayed with me - very strong images spring to mind when I think about it, and now I'm at the stage where I would really love to read it again.

Nagapie Thu 03-Jul-08 17:32:59

Emmylou - I have just reserved the book at our local library so I can remind myself why I hated it/was so dismissive of the book...

Thefearlessfreak Thu 03-Jul-08 17:52:05

I really enjoyed it.. I can't remember it in detail now but I'm surprised that people call it shite & class it as trashy. Must say something about me I suppose!

Flamesparrow Thu 03-Jul-08 18:22:59

I feel like reading it again knowing how many people seem to have hated it!

plumandolive Thu 03-Jul-08 18:28:58

I thought it was just me who disliked it. I read it at around the same time as The Lovely bones, and couldn't see what all the hype was around that either.

IpreferNadal Thu 03-Jul-08 18:37:21

Thought Lovely Bones was good - except last bits. HATED what i did manage to read of Time Travellers Wife.

EmmyLou Sat 05-Jul-08 23:16:47

Would read TTW anytime over The Lovely Bones, but then I tend to avoid thrillers and novels with reverberations of Silent Witness. I remember nothing optimistic about The Lovely Bones - crawling into cellars and rubbish dumps yes, but no olive branch type hint at anything life affirming.

But am I remembering correctly?

Or am I just a plot-wimp?

Flibbertyjibbet Sat 05-Jul-08 23:24:26

Ok does anyone want my copy of the Time Travellers Wife ffp?
I don't usually read fiction but picked it up in the charity shop, can't get past the first chapter and have no intention of trying, as too many people on here have said its dire.
Too much shimmering and glimmering is the usually comment about it.

EmmyLou Sat 05-Jul-08 23:32:41

Flibbertyjibbert - it's not dire! It's definitely flawed, but parts are by turns interesting, touching and clever.

LobstersLass Sat 05-Jul-08 23:49:17

I rather enjoyed it.
It's not the best book I've ever read, but I thought it was lovely.
