I’ve only just discovered these books by Mick Herron and love them. I’ve read the first four so far. Any other fans? It’s going to be made into a tv series with Gary Oldman as Lamb and Kristen Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner.

I really enjoy them too. I think somewhere Lamb is described as like Timothy Spall gone to seed so that’s how I’ve visualised him. Looking forward to the series and also the latest book when my reservation comes through.

Off topic, but channel surfing the other day I came acros Auf Widershein Pet (prob not spelt right). Timothy Spall's character Barry did look young!

Yes, I noticed the reference to Timothy Spall in one of the books. I think Gary oldman will be very good though. The body count across the books surprises me - being sent to slough house shortens your life expectancy significantly!!

I love them, and have read them all. The latest one felt ever-so-slightly rushed to me, although still very enjoyable.

Beyond Lamb I think Louisa is my favourite character; competent, introspective, messy.

I remember saying when the TV series was first mooted, the casting of Taverner will be critical to the success of this show. I like the prospect of Kristin Scott Thomas, I think she'll be able to pull off that complex mixture of bravado, incompetence and icy skill that Taverner displays.

One of my favourite quotes, from one of the later books:

“As with any mystery, you have to address the four Fs.” No one dared ask. “Who the fuck, what the fuck, where the fuck and why the fuck,” Lamb continued.

What a great quote. I’m tempted to use it at work although (for the avoidance of any doubt) I’m nothing like Jackson Lamb Grin

Never read any of this series but noticed that are few of these are just £2 for a paperback copy at Amazon currently. Was tempted at that price.

There are a number of short stories - just check you are reading the novels. Start with Slow Horses.

They are terrific and there’s a great politician who may be familiar in many ways...

Currently making my way through them, as fast as my library gets them in! Don’t have Apple TV so probably won’t watch.
Anyone read Dolphin Junction? I don’t usually do short stories but these are very much like the SH books, lots of black humour and twists.
