Looking for an online book club for my mum

My mum has been shielding since March and is finding it very hard. I'm trying to find an online activity that she would enjoy and she liked the idea of joining a book club. Do you know of any online book clubs that she could possibly join? TIA!

I believe the Duchess of Cornwall is launching one.

How old is she? Has she thought about the www.u3a.org.uk/ University of the 3rd Age?

Loads of local activities there, and since covid, many ha e been virtual. My mum's U3A book club went online back then, as did her keep fit.

There's a few on Goodreads too. Does she have a preferred book type?

It's quite easy to get one up and running if your mum has a few friends who fancy the idea.

I have one with friends at the moment. We used to meet in one another's houses but for the last ten months we've used zoom and it works pretty well.

If you need any more information get back to me Smile

Really? I didn't know that. Thank you! I'll tell her and keep an eye out for when it's up and running. Thank you for replying!

The author Clare Macintosh runs a book club on Facebook if your mum uses that.
There's a book for everyone to read each month and then discuss after. And also discussions about what everyone is reading and recommendations.

@TheSpottedZebra Thank you!! Will have a look on Goodreads. She's likes contemporary novels, biographies and classic novels so she would be happy to read most books. I think she would love the opportunity to have a chat with a nice group of ppl about a good book on zoom(with tea and cake) Smile

@highlandcoo thank you! Unfortunately she is quite down at the moment so is struggling to initiate her own book club.

@Snozzlemaid That sounds perfect. Mum is on Facebook so that would be easy for her to join! Thank you!

Literary gift company/Present Indicative have a weekly FB bookclub called "the literary isolationists". They meet Tuesday nights. And if you are not aware LGC/PI are a small family run company keeping a fair few people in employment as artists, originators, makers, & in logistics so if you are looking to support a lovely SME look to them for gift shopping. The founder is an ex-colleague and an amazing literary person herself.

This is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for. I really miss my book club from the area I used to live, and couldn't find anything similar where I moved to.
Now that everything is on Zoom for the foreseeable, I thought it might be easier as we are not now retrained by geography. I would be happy to host on Zoom if I can find enough people willing
