Start using Mumsnet PremiumKindle Paperwhite to Oasis?
(10 Posts)I've loved my paperwhite but it's 9 years old and it's time for a new one. Is the Oasis worth the extra spend?
I am interested in any views as well. I am in the market for a new device.
I have a Kindle Fire at the moment, so read on a Kindle App as it is really just a basic tablet, but I also listen to Audio books and like to have my whole library on the same device. (which the Oasis can do with bluetooth headphones but has no speaker)
I am not sure if I can justify the cost though.
I got an oasis when I was given a £100 Amazon token just as I was planning to get a Paperwhite.
The 'print' is basically identical. The Oasis' two big things are (1) waterproof and (2) bigger screen.
If you need either of those things - eg you're a short-sighted glasses wearer who reads without them in the bath like muggins here, that's effin' brilliant.
If not, get a Paperwhite and save.
Also it's Prime day tomorrow/Wednesday, and various Kindles are likely to be discounted if you have Prime (or know someone that does who'll courier for you).
I have the backlit paper white and it's amazing as I can read it in bed but it's like a proper book not glarey, it's also waterproof!
Oh! I'm out of date :D
In which case the only bonus for the Oasis is the larger screen. That's almost certainly not worth the extra wadge of cash.
And the Paperwhite is now £80 for Prime members, today/tomorrow.
The Oasis is down to £160. I see the current version has a toned backlight so it can do warm light as well as cool, so that's a minor improvement. I'd stick with the Paperwhite.
For @BookWitch, the e-ink readers are a class apart from the Fire tablets. They're so much better to read on, not to mention the weeks long battery life.
I can see the Paperwhite now does Audible, which was the main draw to the Oasis for me.
Does anyone listen to Audible on the paperwhite? Is it Bluetooth only or is there an Audio jack?
It's Bluetooth only
I'm going for the Oasis- decision made
DH talked me into going for the Oasis on Prime day in the end. The warm light is lovely actually, that's the main bonus for me. Bigger screen is good but it's very very thin, so I've bought a chunky case to make it easier to hold. Overall, I like how fast it is and the warm light, but I can't really see how it's worth the extra spend 🤷♀️
