Just curious.

Am loving it, but am reading it so slowly at the moment (cos of babies / lack of sleep etc) and looking for encouragement to keep going.
what do you think?

Just did a search on this book by Anne Enright.

Know that this thread was started ages ago but wondering if anyone else has read it and what they thought.

I've just finished it and am interested in other people's reactions...

I really liked it - but I know others on another book forum found it depressing. I love Anne Enright's language and tone, and lost myself in this book completely.

I really enjoyed it too and found her style of writing really easy to read. However, I did feel a bit flat as I read the last few lines. Can't put my finger on why really.

I loved it. She is such a wonderful writer. And it was so unanticipated too as the book just came into my hands through a friend. I didn't search for it or anything.
I wasn't just pleasantly surprised; I really felt that Enright is a Great Writer.

Her genius is so underestimated.
Then you get train wrecks like Christian "oooh, extended breasfeeding, snicker, eww" Tsiolkas getting rave reviews and hitting the bestseller list for The Slap.
Which was a misogynistic piece of codswallop.

So it depends what you're into really Smile

What a coincidence, I've just read The Slap too and felt very let down by it.

Have you got a recommendation for my next read? We may have similar tastes?! Smile

The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver (or the Poisonwood Bible if you haven't read that) - didn't think I'd like it but it was great.

Thanks for those suggestions. Not read either so may take a look.
