Sophie Hannah's new book Haven't They Grown is 99p on kindle on Amazon at the moment. I know her plots can be (very) far fetched but I find her irresistible! I love a page turner. ☺️ I've downloaded it and I'm going to get an early night with it tonight after a very boozy zoom quiz last night.

Thank you OP. I do like her books, infuriating as they are sometimes. I have had the sample for a while but it was a bit pricey before now.

I bought it too. Always the same with Sophie H - she starts with a storyline that you can't wait to read, then there's a slow let-down.....then a ridiculous, far-fetched ending that leaves you annoyed. Interested to see what everyone else thinks on here!

I read this in one sitting. I hadn’t read anything by her before but I’m keen to read a few more of hers now.

Oh I read this. I used to love her stuff and then it was just so disappointing.

@Finfintytint - I've read many of her books; IMO her best were the Culver Valley Crime Series books. I think that there are around 6 of them - the first being Little Face.

Argh! Amazon check reveals 10 books in the Culver Valley Crime Series.

Thanks, I’ll give it a go. At the moment I have a 99p -a-day Kindle habit.

This is the only book I have ever stopped reading before the end.

I think the big problem with her books is that the initial premise is always compulsively intriguing - then she cannot deliver an ending that isn't unbelievable and ludicrous. Her books get good reviews from critics, but if you look at the Amazon reader reviews, they are very mixed indeed.

Yes! That's it exactly. A good idea initially and then descended into preposterous ridiculousness with no way of bringing everything together. Like the last episode of 'Lost'.

There was a bit in the middle there (panini section) where I thought some pages from another book had got bound in by mistake! Grin

Yes, that Zanna, boyfriend and teacher storyline was completely pointless!

Agree about Culver Valley Crime being good, rose gold,* though I'm not sure I'll ever forgive the ending to The Narrow Bed. It is the least likely motivation for murder I have ever encountered.

I think this book might have had the silliest plot I've ever read. I love her writing but she needs her plots editing much more sharply.

99p and one day of lying on the conservatory sofa later - I have finished it.
It's not great but, IMO, superior to Games For All the Family (the one with the dog-breeding woman and the daughter's English homework.)

Like that one and 'Did You See Melody,' this book revolves around a bizarre situation that intrigues the narrator to the point of obsession. I didn't mind it. (Oh dear - faint praise!)

I really wish that Sophie would write some police procedurals again.

Me again!
The Rubis wine that Tilly shares with Beth and Zannah is a real thing!
I am very tempted to order a bottle.

Anyone out there tried it?

I finished this book a few days ago, such a let down! Never read any of her other books but this one looked so interesting.

I was so disappointed by all the final reveals. 🙁
