(9 Posts)Any recommendations? I’m looking for a literary (well written) novel with a good love story, rather than a trashy type romance. Thanks!
Jane Austen
My Dear I Wanted To Tell You has a rubbish title, chick-lit type cover but is actually a well written novel dealing sensitively with the aftermath of WWI, facial injuries etc with a beautifully told love story intertwined with the events of the war.
Try Georgette Heyer - the original Regency Romancer, and still by far the best. There's some very sly humour in there.
Rosanna Ley, Santa Montefiore and Susan Lewis may fit the bill.
Also Lucinda Riley- start with The Seven Sisters -the first of six books in the series, each one concentrating on a different sister. Her writing is wonderful.
This weekend I've just finished 'The Letter' by Kathryn Hughes which was an effortless read covering romance and heartbreak over two periods - World War 2 and the Seventies. The author has two further books in the series so I'll try those asap
I agree Jane Austen is my romance go to!
Thanks, everyone
