(3 Posts)Have just started reading The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. At the beginning of chapter 3 she writes “I wasn’t clear about whether it was only Maeve and I who were meeting her daughters for the first time”. Is that correct, or should it be Maeve and me? I’ve thought about it so long that I’ve confused myself.
Yep. I follow the rule of if you take the other person out, does it make sense? So in your case it would change to ‘I was to meet her daughters.’ On the other hand, ‘her daughters met Maeve (and me)’... hopefully that makes sense 🙃
I think it is correct as ' I' here is the subject of the sentence.
