I have recently read these two and want to read something similarly cosy and lovely with period details. Suggestions welcome please! Smile

What about the Cazalets? My mind makes a sort of link with I Capture the Castle, although I haven't read the other you name. The good thing about the Cazalets is that if you get on with them, there's a whole series!

Thank you pippistrelle I actually had the Cazalet books in my Amazon wish list after seeing them recommended on here but had forgotten about them! I've just bought the first one, I think they will be perfect Smile

Loved both of those. Have you read Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons? An old one but brilliant. .

I love all of these. You could also try The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford.

Have a look at Margaret Kennedy, also perhaps LP Hartley.

I second Cold Comfort Farm.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day would be worth a look too.

Definitely the Cazalets and Nancy Mitford; you might also enjoy Excellent Women by Barbara Pym, and some Evelyn Waugh, such as Bridehead Revisited, or maybe Vile Bodies (not quite so cosy but lots of parallels and really satirical)

Oh, and Mapp and Lucia! By EF Benson.

Stella Gibbons, Nightingale Wood, reprinted as a Virago Modern Classic a few years ago (and possibly the better known Cold Comfort Farm too).
