My local library use BorrowBox for audiobooks and I'm looking for recommendations please. I've enjoyed the following and looking for other things that may suit as my latest series is almost over.

The Jack Reacher series
The Harry Potter series
The Agatha Raisin series

This is going to hurt
Big, little lies

I wish they had more choices and less of a wait time, don't you?!

I enjoyed the Philip Pullman books (Ruby in the Smoke etc), The Durrells in Corfu, Shadowhunter books by Cassandra Clare (you could start with either her first novel City of Ashes or the first in her new series Lady Midnight)

I tend to just browse through the various categories then queue up a few reservations so I have a selection coming through over time. I quite like the fact that it often leads me to try things I might otherwise not have picked.

I find the wait time shortens sometimes very quickly so for example, if I book an audiobook that won't become available til October, its waiting time will lessen and lessen until I get it in, say July.

I'll have to look at my history to see what's good but I tend to like thrillers so maybe not so good for you.

@Junowhat I don't mind thrillers if they don't include children getting killed etc but I do prefer when the good prevails over evil!! I use audiobooks as escapism so going to a happy and funny place is better most of the time!

Thanks for everything so far everyone 😊

I found my tribe by Ruth Fitzmaurice (beautifully read memoir about wild swimming/friendship/grief..)

Borrowbox is a bit easier than the last app my library needed us to use. I love this facility, though!

I tend to listen to books via narrators I like: Find some you like and google what else they have done.

Wait time is a bit random. They assume people will rent them for the entire duration...so sometimes books arrive very quickly.

Do you know you can use the search on BorrowBox to show you the narrators so you don't need to google what else they read?
Maybe you use another service though but just wanted to share just in case @Madcats

Please, any more recommendations on BorrowBox audio books library? These books saves me from losing my mind so any feel good books or mysteries would be greatly appreciated!

I wish we could just have a UK wide BorrowBox. I used to live in one council area, so was registered with BorrowBox with that library card - just moved to another area & stupidly switched the account to my new library card, & now there is hardly anything to borrow compared to the old account.

My husband gave me The Cazalet Chronicles to listen to once - I loved listening to them and it made the journey to work much easier!

They are book by Elizabeth Jane Howard if you like family sagas.

@SophyStantonLacy there quite a bit of choice when I browse through but if I search for books recommended by friends etc they never seem to be on there! My library used a different platform (??) until recently and I found that had almost everything I searched for so this is why I'm desperate for recommendations 😂

I think all you can see is your own library’s digital collection? So our old library had all the Harry Potter audiobooks available on Borrowbox which the kids loved to borrow. Our new library doesn’t have them.

Harry Potter and Stephen Fry make me so happy, I have listened countless times. I'd be lost without them!

I hope you enjoy them - I've listened to them, read the books and watched the TV adaptation!

Hamish Macbeth - the narrator is great. There are loads of them too!

In line with you having enjoyed Jack Reacher, have you tried the Michael Crais Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series?

They are 'grittier' but good usually prevails!

The Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly is probably murkier/more bleak with less clearly defined good triumphing over evil but they are brilliant crime thrillers.

I have not tried any of those! I will let you know how I get on with them. I get through about 1-2 books a week but waiting times mean this thread may take a while to get through now with all these suggestions thank you so much! 😊
