(12 Posts)I have a stash of her books to read for guilty pleasure. I found a copy of Bride of Pendorric at my gran’s house as a young teen and was hooked. One thing is plaguing me though. I’m sure I remember a miniseries being made of Bride of Pendorric sometime in the 1990s. It was on ITV, Anthony Andrews was in it as Roc Pendorric and I watched it with my mum. Only thing is, I can’t find any reference to this series anywhere on line - not on AA’s wiki page or TV databases. I am wondering if I dreamt it!
Oooh. I think i have a false memory of it too!
I remember the books definitely.
Maybe we are thinking of some other Cornish romantic tragic series!
Thanks for reminding me of it though. I might buy a copy.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Penmarric - family saga by Susan Howatch, and definitely a TV series?
There is a book by Victoria Holt called Bride of Pendorric, but I can’t find any reference to it being on TV either. AA was in the Scarlet Pimpernel though - maybe your memory has mixed the two?
Your post reminded me I used to like Victoria Holts, and also that I have or did have Penmarric somewhere.
No, wasn’t thinking of Penmarric, got that too somewhere! Like Susan Howatch too.
Read her many years ago, am I right in thinking she also wrote under the more well known name of Jean Plaidy?
Yes she did, her real name was Eleanor Hibbert, she was a prolific author, wrote as Jean Plaidy and Philippa Carr and a few others as well.
I loved the Mask of the Enchantress even though it's terrible and actually arguably racist....
Never mind arguably, it IS racist...
Never saw a TV version, but I enjoyed Bride of Pendoric, and Mistress of Mellyn, The Shivering Sands, King of the Castle, Lord of the Far Island...I remember the lurid 1960s covers fondly!
Actually I now remember having nightmares about the wife who got trapped in the lepers squint and perished there!
Happy days.
I can't remember anything about any of them, but I do know that as a teenager I was obsessed with them. Did not know that she and Jean plaidy were one and the same. Is the style very different?
