I am three quarters through this and really enjoying it. It’s well written, unusual and compulsive. It’s a real change from the run of the mill books which are around at the moment. Anyone else read this?

Me! I loved this book for all the reasons you say. The characters are so cleverly drawn and there’s a surprising dash of humour through it all. It was long listed for the Man Booker Prize and I’m looking forward to BB’s next book.

YouSetTheTone so pleased you enjoyed it as well. Agree about the humour, you can just visualise the characters. I am almost finished now with just a few pages to go. I have been looking at the titles of her other books. It seems they have all been well reviewed. Going to get a couple more with the Waterstones tenner I have earned for having enough loyalty stamps.

I was enjoying it at the start, but then it started becoming really unbelievable, and by the end, I was disappointed.

I really liked it too, I loved the description of the knife sellers website.

I have read one other of hers too, I live in the West Country and it's nice to have books set down here.

It was totally unrealistic in places but I loved it!

Really liked it! It's the best book I've read this year so far.

I thought it was ok but totally bemused as to why it was Manbooker long listed.
Can only assume it was because Val McDermid was on the panel of judges.

I've read several of her books (not this one) and Rubbernecker really stands out. Told from the points of view of an autistic young man and lots of dark humour as well as wildly unexpected twists. She has a really unique and different voice.

I've just read this - after picking it up in a charity shop - and I'm another one who is completely bemused that it was Booker long listed. About half way through I had to check that it was in fact Booker listed; it was so average that I was sure I must have been mixed up!

I'm working my way through all of her books ~ a lot of them are set in the area I live in, so I can really visualise the stories. Just about to read The Beautiful Dead, and then I'll be on to Snap :)
