Where to start with Georgette Heyer?

Having seen that Georgette Heyer is popular on MN, I now have six books: These Old Shades, The Corinthian, An Infamous Army, Royal Escape, Regency Buck and Friday’s Child. Is there a particular one I should start with, or does it not really matter?

These Old Shades, Devil's Cub, Regency Buck and An Infamous Army feature some of the same characters, so should be read in order. Regency Buck is actually not a favourite of mine, I don't like the leading male character.

Of the ones you mention, I'd start with Friday's Child.

Love Friday's Child. It's stand alone and a nice intro - very fun and well drawn fallible male characters.

I do like These old shades and devil's cub - quite different eras from the first to the second which makes it interesting.

I didn't think there was much cross over between them and Regency Buck - I quite like this one.

Corinthian is not one of her strongest, in my opinion. It feels a like formulaic and the two lead characters are not so well drawn - although the rest of the cast is quite fun

Friday's Child was my first Heyer, and my very first crush on George.

I was going to post that very thing! I've just finished Penhallow which was actually really dark with no sympathetic characters and I'm halfway through The Nonesuch. Enjoyed/enjoying both! So happy to discover a "new" writer!
