Start using Mumsnet PremiumOMG I've actually got over 650 books!!
(66 Posts)652 to be precise. How the hell did that happen? Okay, so that includes the entire Chalet School, Famous Five etc, but it also doesn't include any of the non-fiction. And they're all mine - I didn't even count DH's.
The worrying thing is that there are a load I haven't even read, and at least 6 that I've got two copies of. . I blame the Book People box sets for that one.
So please reassure me that I'm not alone. And help me find a house with a library so I can find space for them all rather than all the double stacking I've got going on at the moment!
I don’t know how many I have but it’s a lot. Plus I borrow library books. I have stopped buying charity shop books though.
I posted a few months ago that I’m turning 50 and I realised I’d probably die before I read them all!
You are not alone. And it's OK .
Currently using an app to create an inventory, as we are insured for replacement of stuff. I do not care about the furniture only the books.
We have loads of children’s books but I don’t tend to keep adult books (unless cookbooks, reference etc) as I don’t tend to read them more than once.
Always pass on to a friend or give to charity shops
Maybe you should hire a storage unit and turn it into your personal library
i have many thousand ebooks....
I don't think that's too many! I probably still have around 200 books that I had as a child and I have continued to accumulate books throughout my adult life. I justify it by telling myself that most of my books were cheaper than a packet of fags or a bottle of wine and I have something to show for my money!
At the last count, a year ago, I had 1500. I add about four to seven books a month to my collection. My house is tiny, I really should stop.
Not too many at all I've got 150 books on my Audible library, a huge book case downstairs and another one upstairs both packed with books and God knows how many on the Kindle. You can never have too many books if you ask me.
I got rid of 90+ books over the last two days, still have plenty left and most unread and that does not include the 250+ on my kindle
Very envious of the complete Chalet School series. 1 would love to have that.
I have about 300, but every year my husband gets me a big box of books he’s chosen from the Oxfam book shop and the rule is I have to clear out as many as I keep. It’s my favourite Christmas tradition - some times his choices are terrible and sometimes he nails it.
I would love the complete chalet school series. How many are in the set
I dread to think how many we have. I can tell you that we've just moved house, the big bookshelf I have for the playroom has two layers of books and all the picturebooks (~200) are in DSs room. I have approximately 100 cookery books, more science books and far far more novels. There are going to be shelves covering 2 walls of the (large) library sitting room.
Don't worry it's fine, the several times I've moved I had more books to move than actual clothes or anything else
I have 1400plus on my kindle but only a few refence books in physical form. I tend to only read them once though, unless particularly good.
I have 1000s and bought 3 more paperback and 2 kindle ones today there is just a comfort in buying a book.
@spok- which app do you use? That's a great idea!
I've got 2702
I use collectorz.com Book Collector - I use the PC version but there are Android and Mac versions.
www.collectorz.com/book
Also versions for Comics, Music, Movies and Games.
350 ish ''real books''
234 on my kindle.
Less than I thought....I must go book shopping soon in case I run out.
We moved from the master bedroom to a converted attic room, turned the big bedroom into working-from-home office and... library.
120 metres of shelves. Books about 110 metres of them. Whee! I think there's around 6000 of the buggers. That's a lifelong collection on both of our parts, plus the good bits inherited from my mum's passing.
I had to stop buying paper books as a new year's resolution (only broken a few times, I'd given myself a getout clause when an ebook of it wasn't available, or art books). I've still run out of space...
About another 300 ebooks. So far.
I really envy you. We have a couple thousand filling up our entire ‘playroom’. The choice is between binning them and buying most of them again at some point (a lot of reference books) or spend a thousand pounds on cheap shelving to accommodate them.
After two major purges I've managed to cut mine down to about 1200...
Oh thank you I’m so relieved that I’m not the only one. Books on bookshelf, under beds, on top of wardrobes, in cupboards, in the garage. More books on kindle. I dare not go near a library. I’ll never get round to reading them. I’ve even put an apology letter in some of the boxes just in case I die and a member of my family are sorting out my stuff. Why do we do it? Anyone know?
Racecardriver £1800 on solid bespoke fitted wooden shelvery by a decent joiner for ours, we went without a proper holiday that year and it was so worth it. You should be able to do yours for less than a grand...
If you happen to be somewhere close to Leeds DM me and I'll pass on the chap we got to do it.
