Start using Mumsnet PremiumIf I like Robert Galbraith
(18 Posts)So I love Robert Galbraith's Cormoran Strike books.
I've always listened in Audible.
I have 6 credits and that I want to use up so I can close my account (you lose credits if you stop subscribing).
Therefore can anyone recommend anything that I might like if I like the above? (I'm normally a listener to trashy m/m romances so I have no idea what else is out there.)
Thanks!
Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brody series
Is that the character Jason Isaacs plays in the adaptations as I did love that series..?
Yes that's the one.
I'll have a look then thanks as he was a compelling character.
You can also put your membership on hold for up to 3 months. You won’t be charged and you’ll still have access to your unused credits. Even if you still cancel at the end of it, it’ll buy you a bit more time to figure out what books to get.
Harry Potter.
I enjoyed Eleanor oliphant is completely fine on audible.
Also a book called black widow by Chris brookmyre
Department Q series by Jussi Adler-Olsen.
Yes, I also love Jackson Brody.
Jussi Adler Olsen ..Department Q novels.
Start with 'Mercy' (Scandi crime , but not too graphic. great quirky characters)
Crossposted with visitorthe dog! (I also love Jackson Brodie)
Ragnor Jonasson Dark Iceland books are good.. Snowblind is the first one
The Viveca Stern Sandhamm mysteries are also good, but more like a Danish 'Miss Marple' ..
The Thorne novels by Mark Billingham
Agree on the J.B series. I could tell JKR had been influenced by Kate Atkinson not long into reading The Cuckoo's Calling.
Also, there's a new Jackson book out next autumn!
Next year southeast? Seems ages away!
Anthony Horowitz is probably best known as a children's writer but he has written some great crime for adults:
Magpie Murders
The word is murder and there is a new one coming out soon.
I enjoy Robert Galbraith and have also enjoyed both of the above books on audible.
He has also written modern Sherlock Holmes too
The Gina Harte detective series by Carla Kovach is similar in tone. I enjoyed the first book called The Next Girl and am halfway through the recently released second one called Her Final Hours.
Other writers I like in this genre are Sabine Durrant, Louise Candlish and Sarah Pinborough.
