On our way north for the week and some long evenings getting children to sleep in the caravan await.

I've read and loved Outlander. Tried lymond but can't get into it. Love a historical novel or a saga but not keen on thrillers.

Please recommend me something!

Turn of the Tide, and the sequel A House Divided by Margaret Skea. Set during the 16thC in Ayrshire - local writer but absolutely brilliant books - don’t be put off by the fact the author isn’t a big name. She has won a ton of awards and the books are brilliant.

I found His Bloody Project absolutely riveting. Just the thing for caravan reading!

Definitely Lillian Beckwith, her books are so funny, She goes to the Isle of Eigg, although she changes the name in the books, and rents a croft there. She also wrote a book called About My Father’s Business about her younger life in her father’s shop.

Peter May’s trilogy set on Lewis are great.

Also, Quintin Jardine’s Skinner series (there are 26 I think now) set in Edinburgh and across Scotland.

Both cop books but not thrillers.

What about Irvine Welsh?

I second His Bloody Project. Also the Crow Road if you've not read it, and Stonemouth.

The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justifed Sinner by James Hogg.

The Crow Road Iain Banks as jackof hearts says. A great family story if not quite a saga.

I like the Isabel Dalhousie series by Alexander McCall Smith too if you fancy something lightish.

I love Flight of the Heron by DK Broster - romantic adventure story set during the '45 Jacobite uprising. The action takes place all over Scotland, so may well tie in to places you're visiting.
