Reccomendations for hospital reading please

Hi, I'm going to be spending a couple of weeks in hospital soon watching over one of the dc. I'd like to take something to read but it's going to be a stressful time do something light, cheerful, escapism.

I haven't read anything for ages and read anything from Katie Fforde fluff to War and Peace, really enjoy Lee Child, recently Hubble bubble went down well, I'm not in the mood for heavy or improving.

I think you are being very sensible in planning your reading. I’ve recently spent a lot of time with a sick relative and I’ve read these, not sure if they fit your remit though

Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler &
How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie after I saw it recommended on an MN thread. Odd choice really but I’ve really enjoyed it.
To the Bright Edge of the World by Ivey Eowyn whonhas also written the Snow Child. Of you haven’t read the Snow Child, have a look at it and see what you think. I loved it when I read it a couple of years ago.

The one I’d recommend is The Forever House by Veronica Henry.

If you fancy something not so light but utterly absorbing try this book of short stories by Edith Pearlman.

My light escapism reads of recent times have been The Shardlake books by CJ Sansom, starting with Dissolution. They are mysteries set in the reign of Henry VIII, not too taxing, but interesting and involving. Easy to pick up again if you have to put them down.

Also you might want to look at the Persephone series of books, reprinted women’s fiction from the 30s and 40s. I read Mariana by Monica Dickens and have picked up a few others. Intelligent and well written, but on the lighter side of things.

Light, funny, escapist, and with two gorgeous male characters, and over twenty books in the series so far - what more could you want? It begins with One For the Money.
