...everything by Donna Tartt, Victoria Hislop, CJ Sansom, Sebastian Faulks and Sarah Waters, what will I love next?

I'm pregnant, poorly and bored. Please recommend me something you loved!

Kate Atkinson? The Goldfinch.

PaperdollCartoon Wed 31-Jan-18 16:41:41

Thank you! I loved The Goldfinch. I was genuinely sad when I came to the end.

I'll have a look at your suggestions. smile

I was coming on to say the light between oceans. I loved that book.

It's a bit different to some you've listed but Purple Hibiscus by chimande-adiche is stand out for me.

Sounds like we have very similar taste .. I’ve just finished The Ballroom by Anna Hope which I loved. Currently reading The Danish Girl but I’m not quite as enamoured by that.

massistar Wed 31-Jan-18 19:24:30

Also loved The Bees by Laline Paull. Different to anything else I’ve ever read but couldn’t put it down and found it really intriguing.

muminmanchester Wed 31-Jan-18 19:25:01

Following too; it sounds like we have the exact same taste and I’m in need of a new read!

Have you read The Lose Wife by Alyson Richman? Also Mudbound by Hillary Jordan

muminmanchester Wed 31-Jan-18 19:25:48

That’s the LOST wife, not lose wife!!

ladyratterley Wed 31-Jan-18 19:27:50

Ooh those are all right up my street. Following this thread with interest.
Hand you read My Cousin Rachel? I was gripped by that.

muminmanchester Wed 31-Jan-18 19:29:11

I’m reading Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty just now which is also good

Pittcuecothecookbook Wed 31-Jan-18 19:43:27

Another vote for My Cousin Rachel too.

AdaColeman Wed 31-Jan-18 19:44:11

False Lights by K J Whittaker if you like convoluted plots.

Fwend Thu 01-Feb-18 19:24:39

I loved My Cousin Rachel.

Some great suggestions here, thank you! My amazon account is going to take a bashing.

I've just finished Camino Island today for a quick, easy read. I liked it, although now I'm craving sunshine.

I've got Magpie Murders, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and Women & Power on my bedside table - those, plus recommendations above will keep me busy. Thank you!

You absolutely have to read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara if you like Donna Tartt.

It’s 700 pages but I honestly wished it was longer!!

Fwend Thu 01-Feb-18 19:49:55

700 pages? Count me in! grin

Ihana Thu 01-Feb-18 20:01:20

I have very similar taste and was just going to say A Little Life. Did think it could have been a little shorter but it was beautiful (and harrowing).

ladyratterley Thu 01-Feb-18 20:57:17

I’ve just bought A Little Life, thanks for the recommendations.
I haven’t read it for years but it might be worth a few of you checking out What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt. I might re read it soon. The characters are brilliant and it’s a bit Donna Tart-esque.

OP, based on your list I would recommend:

Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver
The Children’s Book - AS Byatt
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena - Anthony Marra
