Welcome to the first thread of the 50 Book Challenge for this year.

The challenge is to read fifty books (or more!) in 2018, though reading fifty isn't mandatory. Any type of book can count, please try to let us all know your thoughts on what you've read.

Who's in for this year?

I'm in. Thoroughly enjoyed last year's challenge although I only managed forty-odd. I doubt I'll read 50 this year either, but this thread helps me read well and often.

Ooh yes! I did fairly well last year but it was more in the twenties than fifty. I love getting recommendations and reading goodreads

I am in this year. Bring it on! Have just started Our Man in Havana by Graham Greene to kick off a great year of reading.

Good morning and HNY all :)

Definitely. Fell off the thread last year in about February, had a terrible reading year (long story), determined to do better this year. I want to read more and actually write some thoughts about the books too.

First up is The Dry by Jane Harper - work book club choice - which I started last night.

HNY!

I'm joining this year. I'm not sure how well I will do as going back to uni and it's going to be a FULL ON manic year of studying and placements but I've so many books I've not read.

Starting with the handmaidens tale.

Happy new year all

I'm in :)

In 2017 I managed 46/50 but I've been reading much more recently so hoping to exceed 50 in 2018. Happy reading everyone!

Happy New Year All,

I didn’t quite get to 50 last year for the first year in ages. Am currently about half way through Golden Hill and am finding it quite hard going as I think some of you have as well.

As usual loads of unread books on my kindle and two book groups to keep up with.

Happy reading everyone.

I'm in. I've not done anywhere enough reading for the last few years - used to read loads and then kids came along and it more or less stopped (or perhaps the smart phone with instant access to FB & Twitter was the real problem? 😳) Anyhow, I rediscovered my love of reading at the end of last year (Eleanor Oliphant...) and, while I may not reach 50, I'm going to give it a good shot. Starting with Golden Age, James Maxwell.

Happy New Year all and thanks for new thread south.

North Water on daily deal if anyone’s interested. Think most people enjoyed it here.

I'd like to join. I am currently listening to The Book of Dust by Philip Pullman and reading The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick - complete coincidence that they are both by Philip's.

Checking in to the new thread. I managed 52 last year - reads loads at the beginning and then reading tailed off after September.

Aiming to read 50 again but might find it tricky this year.

I'd like to join please! I started off last year but then fell to the wayside.

I'm currently reading The Essex Serpent which I'm sure has been done to death on here but was cheap on the kindle.

I wasn't sure what to expect really, but it's fairly enjoyable.

I am also reading Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking in the bath.

Hopefully if I can give up the cigs I can spend more on books!

Happy new reading year everyone. 2018 is the year I’m going to get to 50 books (hopefully). Feel I’ve been getting my reading mojo back and my youngest is almost three now giving me a bit more time/mental space. I’m currently reading eleven books but I think the first I will finish will be The dark is rising by Susan Cooper.

Can I join. Going to start the new year with a novella I down loaded to kindle.

I have well over 100 unread books on my shelf and I can't seem to resist buying more so I'd love to do this. I'm not a particularly fast reader though so I'm not sure I'll manage 50.

I'd love to do this Smile I asked for books for Christmas as I'm on maternity leave for half the year (due in 8 days - eek!) and don't want to spend too much time watching brain dead tele. Might be wishful thinking though!

Starting with The Keeper of Lost Things.

I’m in! I fell off the thread in about October after not updating for a couple of weeks and losing track.

Currently reading a shitty fantasy series by Maria V Snyder - it’s so bad it’s infuriating, but DH bought me a box set for Christmas so I am determinedly ploughing through it. I’ve also got about 25% of the Dark Tower to finish - stormed through the first 6 (had read the first 4 many times before) and then felt like the series jumped the shark a bit in the final book.

First time on the thread and kicking off with The Invitation by Lucy Foley. Set in a glamorous film crowd on the Italian Riviera, part mystery part romance; enjoying it so far.

No, after several unfortunate incidents, the kindle is no longer allowed in the bath so I need paperbacks for my nightly lossack in the bath!

Dh frequently complains that our bathroom resembles a library....

I'm just finishing Dirt Music by Tim Winton (Christmas present from DH). Australian author, love his books. Looking for suggestions for the next 49!
