Can someone recommend me some good non-recent crime/thrillers?

I've been looking for some new books to read but I seem to have read pretty much all the new crime/thriller stuff

Have you read Ruth Rendell, PD James? Older obvious ones like Agatha Christie or Ngaio Marsh ? Dorothy Simpson is from the 80s or 90s i think

If you want something stranger then John Connolly's Charlie Parker novels are very well written.

Recently read The Seamstress by Maria Duenas - very enjoyable. Fashion, glamour, spies and set in the 30s/40s. Strong female characters too.

Silence of the Lambs and The Day Of The Jackal are the best thrillers I’ve ever read (though to be fair I’m not a huge thriller fan).

In terms of fluffy funny crime stories Sarah Caudwell’s four novels set around a chamber of scatty barristers are underappreciated gems.

Celia Fremlin. "The Hours Before Dawn" has just been re-published in a vintage edition. All about a new mother struggling with a baby who won't sleep, and strange things happening......it's a compulsive read, and written many years ago.

No-one beats Dorothy L Sayers, in my opinion. She is the Queen of Golden Age detective fiction
