Best Georgette Heyer

Just re-reading The Nonesuch - and waiting to borrow These Old Shades from my mum. Sometimes nothing else will do. I would love some bright sparks to do a series of Georgette Heyers on TV. If they did a series what would everyone like?
I would beg for........These Old Shades, Devil's Cub, A Civil Contract, The Nonesuch, The Talisman Ring, The Convenient Marriage, Faro's Daughter and Frederica.
What would anyone else choose?

TCM, obviously.

Though a series of feature-lengths would be lush.

These Old Shades
Devil's Cub
Sylvester
TCM
Arabella
Frederica
The Reluctant Widow
April Lady
Toll Gate
The Corinthian

Lovely Sunday night costume drama series, plenty of scope to get salaried BBC luvvies involved in supporting roles - can't think why it hasn't already been made!

Regency Buck is my favourite!

Frederica is my favourite. I prefer the Regency books rather than the ones set earlier with the men wearing face paint, powder and ridiculous frills

Also really like The a Grand Sophy.

Oh I adore Venetia, and Cotillion, and pretty much all of the others! I do go back to These Old Shades a lot too. Oh, and Faro’s Daughter. I feel a massive readathon approaching

The Grand Sophy, Frederick, the Nonesuch, Devils Cub, These Old Shades.. I could go on and on! I would hate a tv series, they’d mess around with the stories and mis cast characters.. I couldn’t watch! I’ve read all mine to pieces so I’d notice every single little deviation.

Ohh of course cotillion. Might read this now actually..

Ha! It's long been on my proposed reading list. But then that's a long list.
I need to read more. Blush

I love The Convenient Marriage so very much.

The Grand Sophy is good fun, The Devil's Cub... I honestly don't think there is one I don't love though.

I usually read several a year, but we moved house and put all our books into storage and I don't know what to do!

astounded buy them all on kindle or iBooks too.. just for emergencies of course..

It is a bit of a commitment wolfie, once you’ve started if you love them there’s a lot to get through!

Regency Buck, False Colours, The Unknown Ajax (I always call that one the Elephant Ajax by mistake Grin)

Which one should you start with?

I loved Friday’s Child when I was young.

My favourite is Footsteps in the Dark, one of the crime ones set in the 20's. I'd love to see it done well, the costumes and scenery would be fantastic.

Of the regency ones, I think the unknown ajax would be top.

Frederica, Venetia and The Grand Sophy are my favourites - and read over and over!

So hard to pick a favourite!
I adore The Grand Sophy, Frederica, These Old Shades, Devils Cub, Cotillion.
Of the less generally loved books I really like Black Sheep - I guess because Abby is a little older, and I feel like she/Miles will genuinely have a happy marriage.
False Colours is another favourite of mine which doesn't seem so universally popular.

Does anyone else remember the MN Georgette Heyer book club a few years back? Just had a quick search and funny to see so many old poster names on there :)

I certainly do! I have lots of Horry NCs from when apparently I had time to write lots of essays.

We never finished the series; we had run out of steam and already had all the best ones. I think we were like 25+ through though?

Report
Sadik · 13/11/2017 21:45

Yes, I don't think Black Sheep ever came up, and there weren't many posts on a lot of the later books.

I remember you being HorryisUpduffed or similar Grin

I was indeed Upduffed (he has just turned four) for a lot of it.

I've just spent the best part of three hours rereading. Lovely!

I doubt I will ever get over my crushes on Rule, Avon and Vidal.

Am I the only Sylvester fan here (or Phoebe fan) here?
I’ll have Sylvester, Venetia, False Colours and Cotillion please.

I've read lots of hers, but can never remember which I've read and which I liked.

Grand Sophy - think I liked that one
Faro's Daughter - just read it, and liked it
Which one is "These Old Shades"? Can somebody give me a few non-spoiler clues, please (although the ending is usaully pretty apparent from the start!)!

Report
MrsHathaway · 14/11/2017 19:54

These Old Shades is where Justin, dastardly Duke of Avon, spots "Leon" in Paris and takes "him" on as a page due to "his" apparent likeness to the Duke's nemesis, the Comte de S. Vire. "Leon" turns out to be Leonie ...
