What we're reading

This may be the most vague question yet ..

..... but I'm looking for two books and I can't google them and it's annoying the life out of me.

First book is a child's book about 4 schoolgirls and one character was called Felicity. Her nickname was Fij. I read it around 1996 - 1999. I think it may have been part of a series of books about these characters. That's it. That's all I've got.
It only came into my head as I was talking about the name Felicity and now I can't stop thinking about this blooming book!

Second book I can offer a few more clues. It is definitely a series of books, sure it's by a famous ish author. It's about 4 sisters, one of which is called Phoebe. I think it's set near the coast and the sisters are always getting into trouble. They love reading and are quite poor. I read these books again around 1996-1999.

If I search this I just get a blank stare from google!! Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh and the sisters who like reading, well one of them had a penchant for A E Houseman the poet. Why can I remember when that random fact but not the name of the book?? Angry

Was each book named after one of the sisters? That rings a bell with me

The Sleepover Club series had a character called Felicity and was around that year range?

Second one rings a bell, raised by an uncle with a weird name?

Marilyn Kaye - sisters series? There’s a phoebe and a daphne? I can’t remember many other details or if the years fit though.

We should open a bar - that’s a different series of books. The Uncle is called Djanjo I think?

This is going to drive me mental now! Do you remember anything else at all about the Felicity books? Were they set in this country? Any idea what decade they were set in?

Thanks for all your super quick replies everyone, they aren't the ones I'm thinking of I'm afraid. It's so annoying that I can't remember them enough to know the name but I can remember the enough to know what they aren't!
The Felicity books were set in the UK around the 1990s. I have a vague recollection they were at an all girls school. (I was going through a boarding school, jolly hockey sticks reading phase!)
Thanks again everyone.

It's not the Mallory Towers series is it? There was a Felicity if I remember rightly. V jolly hockey sticks!

No, not Mallory Towers although I inhaled all of them too. I was desperate to go to boarding school and have midnight feats and make life long friends forever Blush

Well last night my son woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep but in my sleep deprived state my brain came up trumps! The books about the sisters are a series called The Exiles by Hilary McKay. It just popped into my brain, the name of the author and everything. Hopefully he won't sleep tonight and I'll remember the school book now Grin
