Hi. I love a good crime mystery but there's so much choice out there! Who to read next?! If you also love this genre then please give me your recommendations of your favourite author. Thanks!

What type of crime do you like? Classic whodunnit, historical, cosy, police procedural, quick read or something longer? Etc. Etc.

And what authors have you already read/do you like best?

Kindle currently has a lot of Golden Age mysteries on at 99p.

For historical, there's Lindsay Davis' Falco or Ellis Peters' Cadfael. Someone also recently recommended to me Ann Swinfen's series set in medieval Oxford, but I haven't tried them myself.

More substantial historical is CJ Sansom's Shardlake.

Ann Granger has written various contemporary and historical.

Will come back with more when I've had a think.

I’ve discovered Kate Atkinson and her Jackson Brodie novels this year. Only read the first 2 so far, but really enjoyed them.

Have you read any of Andrea Camilleri Montalbano books?

I like Robert Goddard. Not crime as such more mystery a bit far fetched but enjoyable. Also second Kate Atkinson. Not keen on police type stuff. I've read a couple of the Shardlake series. They are good but a bit too long winded and complicated at times. For me anyway.

Catriona McPherson's Dandy Gilver series. Posh private detective in Scotland in the 20s and 30s. Fabulous reads. Characters speak like characters did in books of the era and are believably from that era. Writer was an academic so knows how to do her research but the books aren't weighed down by it. Great reads.

Michael Connelly, Lesley Grant Adamson, Minette Walters, Michael Dibdin, but I would have included lots of others already mentioned. Apart from the first, the others are less well known (and/or dead/OOP so best found via libraries or second hand).

I read loads but never remember the author, just the lead detective! Also I never remember the book titles so series of books are kind of all mashed together smile

I like the detective called Bosch, and the Glaswegian chap whose wife is a nurse and the have a holiday cottage in Mull.

And the one called Grace who accidentally murdered her sister.
