I had to ask my Dad to take it to his house.

I read a few of Mo Hayder's books after reading some threads here about scary books.

I found them so vile and disturbing, they really got under my skin. So yes they are scary but in a gruesome way rather than a supernatural way. If that makes sense?

Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood scared the bejesus out of me.

The audiobook of The Woman In Black was terrifying too. Couldn't face the book after that.

Any other scary ones I've read are Stephen King ones.

Sorry, hit post too soon. Naomi's Room is terrifying, also The Matrix and his earlier books like Whispers in the Dark.

Definitely second House of Leaves - very unsettling.

And 100% agree with PenguinofDoom on Naomi's Room - utterly terrifying, especially when a roof tile had come off and a malignant pigeon decides to tapdance through the attic while I was reading it.

Is House of Leaves printed on solid gold?
So many recommendations but it seems to be about £28 a copy!

Jack Ketchum really unsettling books. Girl next door is horrific, uncomfortable but compelling in a voyeuristic way. Off season is violent and bloody.

The House Of Lost Souls by FG Cottam

And agree that most of Johnathan Aycliffes stuff is good.
