I need a new book to read ...

The last couple of books I've read and enjoyed have been Golden Hill by Francis Spufford, The Essex Serpent (Sarah Perry)

I've tried a couple of kindle samples and not been gripped and am flailing in a bookless morass....

Authors I particularly like are Jasper Fforde, Patrick O'Brian, Terry Pratchett, Iain Banks (both sci-fi and not), David Mitchell, Rose Tremain, Sarah Waters, Kate Atkinson, Philip Kerr

I like lots of different genres - sci-fi, fantasy, historical novels, thrillers but an currently feeling uninspired - inspire me please!

Ever read Robin Hobb? She writes fantasy and you might like the Rain Wild chronicles.

Other books I've loved are The Help and Where'd you go Bernadette. Can't remember author's names.

I loved The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton (great storytelling, reminded me of Sarah Waters). I'm just about to read her latest - The Muse - which looks good too.

Just finished All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Absolutely loved it - very readable but a story that is compelling and stays with you. Highly recommend.

I second the Robin Hobb recommendation and I liked 11.22.63 as well. Have you tried Jodi Taylor, first one is "Just One Damned Thing After Another" and also Genevieve Cogman "The Invisible Library" - I think both of those were recommended to me on here!

I just finished Hold Back The Stars tonight! I really liked it! I used to read Katie's blog once upon a time too :)

If you like fantasy I would also recommend Jodi Taylor, and Victoria Schwab has a trilogy starting with A Darker Shade of Magic which is fairly good. Also Leigh Bardugo Six of Crows series is worth a read!

David Downing's series set in Nazi Germany is really good, starting with Zoo Station - there are 6 books all with a station name.

I also enjoy Jane Thynne's Clara Vine series, again set in Nazi Germany (she happens to be Philip Kerr's wife but that may not be that relevant).

I've just finished reading My Fight For My Family( The Mega Pig File) by D Jordan, i would defo recommend that!! It's like a psychological thriller type , but it's NONFICTION! Basically the social services steal a baby off a mother in the street and tbats only the beginning, then they like "gang up" against that family and try to make them out to be aweful people and this goes on for years while the father tries everything to keep his family together. It's so emotional xx
