What will you be reading over Christmas?

I might go for The Little Stranger for spookiness, or the next Mrs Tim book in the series I've been reading, Mrs Tim Gets a Job, for comforting familiarity or maybe I'll try Rosamunde Pilcher as recommended here so often.

BUT what about you lot? What are you going to be curled up with as you digest the turkey while reaching for the choccies and swigging sherry by the roaring fire?

I'm reading The Secret History. I'm really enjoying it but at me pace, I'll probably still be reading it over Xmas.
I might have started a new one by new year though. I'll hang around here for some ideas.

I have Excellent Women by Barbara Pym and The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon lined up. I think Excellent Women will be a perfect book to read with a glass of sherry by the fire.

I'm a slow reader as well LiveLife. Got to finish off Undee the Net by Iris Murdoch which is less than 250 pages on my device and pretty smooth reading.

I want to finish The Night Circus. It's a beautiful story, but a really busy few weeks at work put paid to any reading over that time.

Just finished Lynda La Plantes 'Anna Travis' series and started first 'Prime Suspect'. Really into detective fiction at the moment so would welcome any suggestions.

I'm reading Being Mortal but wanted something jollier so have just bought The Secrets of Wishtide by Kate Saunders.

My sister gave me The Grand Tour, Natsku. And riffing on a similar theme, she gave me A is for Arsenic by Kathryn Harkup. This is a Christie fan chemist's book cataloging the poisons used in Agatha Christie's books, giving their chemical provenance and also including how they have been used in true crime. My sister then followed it up by giving me Curtain Up: Agatha Christie A Life in Theatre! Somewhat specialist ginormous tomes but still interesting. I'd like to read Come, Tell Me How You Live especially as I know little about anthropology/archeology.

I am reading The Husband's Secret which I am enjoying. Not sure what to read next but have around 30 paperbacks all waiting, to say nothing of the Kindle stock.

I've almost finished The Sellout by Paul Beatty,then I have three from the library waiting to read. I also bought After The Crash by Michele Bussi and The Butchers Hook by Janet Ellis in the Kindle sale yesterday for 99p so possibly one of those too on my phone while feeding the baby!

I've got a little pile: The End of Elsewhere (a travel recommendation from the 50 books thread) which I'm currently reading, then Four Futures: Life after Capitalism (read a review of it in the paper then saw Verso were selling all their books 1/2 price and was tempted), The Volunteers (a Parthian Books thriller set in S Wales during the miners' strike that I picked up in the library) and Breakfast at Tiffany's (also from the library, never read it nor seen the film).
I'm also hoping for a few books as presents as my friends and family know my tastes!
Oh, and I've also got a book about the Hacienda to read from the Kindle sale but that's on my phone so will probably wait until I'm travelling next.

I'm reading Wolf Winter, a historical crime novel set in 18th century Swedish Lapland (not jolly and festive but really interesting and suitably wintry.) if I manage to get that finished over the holiday I'm hoping that Santa will have brought me one or two new books to lose myself in. Nothing nicer over the Christmas holidays than coorying in with a good book.

I finished The Husband's Secret and found it a very good read. Going to start Derek Hansen's Remember Me. I have read a few of his 'Lunch with ....' books and found him to be a excellent author, so have high hopes for this one.

I am an avid crime and thriller fan, and now after binge reading Tony Black and Richard Montanari, I feel the need for something a little more light hearted.

So I have made the momentous decision to indulge in some chick lit this Christmas, along the lines of Jessica Blair, Santa Montefiere and maybe some Sheila O Flanagan as well.

No doubt I shall soon be back to my usual noir material when I've had my fill of sloppy slush!
