What we're reading

Christmas or winter themed book?

It's my turn to choose the book group novel for reading over the Christmas period. Any suggestions? In the past we've done Winter Ghosts, and Hercule Poirot's Christmas. Anything winter or Christmas themed would be good.

Oh The Winter Book is a delight. Have you read The Christmas Party by Georgette Heyer? If Hercule Poirot's Christmas went down well then it might be popular.

The snow child is such a magical emotional book. One of my favourites.

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver is good. A bit spooky and chilling if you like that sort of thing!

Michelle Paver has a new ghost story out - Thin Air which sounds quite appealing. Perfect for a creepy Autumn/Winter read.

The box of delights - ok it's kids fiction but I read it every Christmas for 20 years until I was 30. May re read it again this year actually

Rachel Joyce's Snow Garden is a lovely book of short, interlinked stories, with a festive theme ( author of the Harold Fry book, which I also loved).

Yes, I liked that one too.

Ghost at the Table by Suzanne Berne is a wintery book - think it is set around thanksgiving.

What Remus said.

Worst Journey is long, but you could just read the winter journey chapter 'if you march your winter journeys you will have your reward as long as what you want is a penguin's egg'.

MR James' stories were written to be read aloud at Christmas - would that count?
