Recommend me something juicy

Am struggling to get stuck into anything at the moment.

Have just read the Shetland series and the Vera series by Anne Cleeves. Need a bit of a break from her though.

I usually like chic lit. Love lisa jewel, Jane green, Adele parks but a bit meh about jojo moves.

I didn't particularly like gone girl or girl on a train but don't mind crime/thrillers. But prefer the Anne Cleeves whodonit to a gritty thriller.

Please recommend something I can download today otherwise I might have to talk to dp tonight instead. Thanks muchly.

You could try Susan Hill's detective series, with Serrailler, the detective. Not too gruesome, very English settings, there are about 7 in the series, so plenty to keep you going.

Thanks very much, will load a couple to my kindle later. I downloaded something last night (can't remember what it was) but after 10 pages I was asleep and couldn't tell you what it was. Which is never a good sign.

I love my kindle but miss being able to browse actual books!

I've just finished Runaway by Peter May and really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed Coffin Road by the same author.

Seconding Susan Hill's Simon Serrailler series. I really enjoyed them. Don't think there will be any more though :( I did find the ending to the final one rather downbeat and had hoped there would be another one.

Also, really enjoying Tony Parsons' series - there's three now. Set in London, starting with The Murder Bag. Very well written, but a bit on the grisly side. You'll need a strong stomach!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to post recommendations. I used to read anything and everything but have been quite restrictive over the.last few years. Mainly because of time and partly because I have been too lazy to look beyond my 'recommended for you' list on my kindle.

The Anne Cleeves books were based on a kindle '10 authors you should read' list otherwise I wouldn't have read them at all.

I think I will try the Susan Hill books. Have enjoyed having a series to read. But 2as sad when each one ended. Have the 7th Shetland book preordered though!

I remember I did really enjoy the first one. But I found her a bit morbid at the time, or maybe too grown up. I was much younger then and more into fluffy chiclit. I keep looking at her stuff and thinking I ought to give her another chance.

I really enjoy the CJ Sansom books frouby. They are kind of murder/mystery/whodunnit type books set in tudor times. Karin Slaughter is very good too. Murder/psychology thiller type thing. She has a series of books but her 'stand alone' books are very good too. I've just finished Cop Town. It's set around women entering the american police force in the 1970's and how they are treated. It's a bit gory and brutal in parts but I really enjoyed it!

I'm so glad people are enjoying the susan hill books. Am trying to find all her other books, not quite as good as the new detective ones, but generally a good read.
Ann cleeves i think seems to have quite a few older books that are now out of print. Maybe they will rerelease them.
At the risk of sounding like too much of a horror fan, have gone back to reading some stephen king, which i haven't read since i was a teenager. His writing is sometimes perfect-funny, clever, authentic. I read one sentence of his recently , wish i could quote it, and it was one of the most interesting, beautifully constructed things i have ever read.
