DS is 9. He loves the Radio 4 comedy Bleak Expectations, so I bought him the novelisation. He loves it and wants to read more of that type of parody. Anyone got any recommendations, because I've not got a clue? Obviously they don't have to be specifically aimed at children, but since he is only 9 I would prefers the themes not be too "adult". Actually are there any children/YA writers known for this type of humour?

Not quite as close a parody as Bleak Expectations (which I agree was brilliant!) but has he read A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket? There are thirteen books and they revolve around three orphaned siblings who have to use their considerable ingenuity to get out of situations of increasingly baroque peril. I read them more than ten years ago now but they're terribly funny, with a Dickensian sort of self-consciousness about the narrating voice, and they don't patronise the reader.
