Anybody read it. If so, what did you think?

I've read it holly .. quite some time ago now, so I don't recall many details, just the general feeling I had about the book.

I do remember that when I read it, I related the main character's experiences to those of a child I used to teach, who was also born looking different. He was very smart and likeable, and sailed through primary school where everyone knew him and accepted him and his appearance was never commented on. As he grew older he encountered episodes of unkindness when people met him for the first time or when he was out in public, and I remember his mum breaking her heart about it.

So when I read the book I very much recalled this particular child. He is a young man now and we are only occasionally in touch, but I'd be interested to know what he himself thought of Wonder if he's read it.

What did you think yourself OP?

It's DD1's favourite book and she really wants me to read it (she's read it several times). I haven't yet but it does sound interesting. Would you recommend it Holly?

I read it and recommended it to my 10 year old DS who also enjoyed it. He's a generally sweet soul but I thought it would be a good idea for him to read a book from the perspective of a child who looks different, as he's bound to meet someone who faces similar issues to August at some point in his life, and we can all do with reminders that people are the same under the skin. I remember seeing the film 'Mask' as a young teen, and it having a similar effect on me.
