Start using Mumsnet PremiumSimilar to Peter Grant series or Queen of the Tearlings series?
(10 Posts)I have had two outstanding recommendations from MN recently - Ben Aaronvitch's Peter Grant series and Erika Johansen's Tearling series.
Both of authors have had no respect for my reading pace and have unaccountably failed to produce more books at the rate I want to read them
Sooo, does anyone else have any spectacular suggestions so I can send you love from afar?
I read these this year too! Loved the Tearling ones, only read one Peter Grant one though. I haven't found anything else that really floats my boat do watching with interest. You know the Tearling one is being made into a film? Starring Emma Watson.
Try The Last Changeling by FR Maher - I really enjoyed it
Stick with PG - they get better and better.
Hmmm. Emma Watson bit too ethereal for me - Kelsea is, ahem, well-built for most of the two books.
The only bit I didn't love was the Lily stuff, a bit sub-Sheri Tepper or Handmaid's Tale.
Paul Cornell's series of London's Shadow Police is London based like the Rivers of London series. They are
London Falling
The Severed Streets
Ooh I bought Queen of the Tearling as a Crimbo present to myself. I've yet to start it but I'm glad to see good reviews of it.
Are there some mini stories on Amazon too? I've got the next Tearling book in my wishlist.
I really enjoyed Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard this year. Unfortunately I'm now left waiting for the next one!
you could also try
Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus series
Christopher Fowler's Bryant and May series
Stephen Leather's Jack Nightingale
Jodi Taylor's time travelling series (slightly different but lots of books to read and very enjoyable)
Thanks again everyone.
Also i have just discovered Kate Griffins Matthew Swift novels, like Peter Grant on steroids. Massively recommend.
Just place marking because I went through the Peter Grant books in an obscenely short space of time - much to my own surprise, as I wasn't sure how much I'd like them (1st one was a desperation buy at a small bookshop as I'd forgotten my kindle)
Jonathon Strouds Lockwood & Co.
Simon R. Greens Nightside novels
