Books for Syria

I popped into my local Waterstone's today and they've got a really good promotion. Publishers have donated books and if you get the ones with the Books for Syria sticker, 100% of the cover price goes to Oxfam's Syrian appeal.

I treated myself to 4 new books (there was a good range to choose from, and if I hadn't got quite a few of them already I could easily have bought more than 4) and instead of my usual guilt for buying books that I don't need when I already have hundreds of books, I could persuade myself that I was just being generous and donating to an appeal.

I don't know how long the promotion has been going on and how much longer it is going on for, but thought I'd post in case other people were unaware of it like I had been before I went.

I've seen them for sale in our Waterstones too.

I'm thinking of replacing a couple of battered copies of books I already have.

They had a sign saying they were trying to raise £1,000,000 so perhaps it will keep going until they reach that figure.

Bought many of them. Even the ones I'd read, (library).
I think if an author cares enough to do that then he is someone who deserves to be read.

Just finished "Life of Pi" - well worth it. William Boyd next.
