Start using Mumsnet PremiumRecommendations for long haul flight
(13 Posts)I'm going to be travelling with work and will spend ove 50hrs ion flights in total! Any recommendations for some good reads. I've previously enjoyed 'The Secret History', 'The Sea, The Sea' and some crime novels. I'm looking for some new books, I'm out of touch- help!
Thank you.
I am Pilgrim is a nice and thick crime story. I really enjoyed it and almost let the kids starve because I didn't to stop reading to cook dinner!"!
Ha ha, thank you. I'm away to Australia, so will take your talk name as a sign that this is book to buy!!
Some of my favourite 'long' books include Anna Karenina and A House for Mr Biswas. Don't know if they'd be to your taste though, or if you've already read them.
50 hours to sit and read
50 hours to sit and read without two kids next to you !!!!! A bliss!!
Another nice book difficult to put down is Finders Keepers by Stephen King, not an horror book, a crime story again, with the same detective from his previous book Mr. Mercedes. But I liked this one more.
For my next flight back to Europe, I have on my list the new Robert Galbraith, Carer of Evil. I enjoyed the fist two and was really surprised to!
How about The Goldfinch?
I read Anna K on holiday . It took me 25 hours of planes, boats and trains. And I'm a fast reader .
Madame Bovary?
The Luminaries (helps if youve been to NZ)
Career not carer
What about 'A Suitable Boy' (Vikram Seth)? It's huge, sprawling, absorbing. I took it travelling and it lasted me a looong time.
I was going to suggest both The Goldfinch and A Suitable Boy too.
You'll need a few different types of books presumably; what about The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling? Ooh or Wolf Hall maybe?
Thank you. I've just purchased The Goldfinch and I Am Pilgrim.
Have a nice trip!!
How about something by Liane Moriarty. She sets her books in Oz and that could get you in the mood? Try: www.tripfiction.com/little-lies-novel-set-in-australia/ And have a good trip!
This is the perfect time for the kindle versions on an iPad or any tablet. You can then get the linked audible version, to listen to when your eyes get tired. The way the two versions sync up is magical.
Id encourage you to get war and peace. Id never read it til the bbc radio 4 broadcast the while lot (think it was boxing day or new years day last year). I loved the idea of history as a family story and listened over and over. And got the kindle version, too. Enjoy.
