Have just finished Saskia Sarginson's "Without You". A taut psychological thriller which I couldn't put down but also, I thought, was well-written.

Any other ideas for books of this ilk?

I think Thomas Harris has a particularly elegant prose style. He lost the plot after Hannibal, but Silence of the Lambs is brilliant if you've never read it.

In the Canyons of Shadow and Light, by Emily Donoho.

It's a psychological drama/police procedural set in New York. Absolutely incredible book - and the author wasn't afraid to show their characters' failings either.

Ooh yes, I've read both of Mary Torjussen's books. Both are really good.

you should have known, by jean hanff korelitz (sp?). I've read a few books that professed to be the new Gone Girl. They weren't. THis one was well-written - kept me rivetted

Thanks all. I've just bought Girl on a Train and A God in Ruins (not a thriller but I adore Kate Atkinson )
